How to crochet around the ring
If you want to make a rattle with a mouse, cast on 38 ch, without a mouse – 22 ch.
Work 7 back and forth rows starting each row with 1 ch.

Important! The number of the rows and stitches in a chain depends on your crochet
tension, crocheting hook size, variety of the yarn and the thickness of the wooden ring. Try
the piece (semi-ring) on the wooden ring in the process of making it.

Important! This piece should be sewn to the ring tightly. Otherwise the head of the
rattle will dangle.

Head
Option №1 (without a spot)
Row 1: 6 sc in mc (6)
Row 2: 6 inc (12)
Row 3: (1 sc, inc) х 6 (18)
Row 4: (2 sc, inc) х 6 (24)
Row 5: (3 sc, inc) х 6 (30)
Row 6: (4 sc, inc) х 6 (36)
Row 7: (5 sc, inc) х 6 (42)
Row 8: 42 sc
Row 9: (6 sc, inc) х 6 (48)
Rows 10-15: 48 sc – 6 rows

Change the colour of the yarn as it is shown on the photo below:

5
Rows 16 – 19: 48 sc – 4 rows (48)

Insert safety eyes between Rows 15 and 16 of the head at the distance of 10 sc from each
other (as it is shown on the photo).

Row 20: (6 sc, dec) х 6 (42)

Row 21: (5 sc, dec) х 6 (36)
Row 22: (4 sc, dec) х 6 (30)
Row 23: (3 sc, dec) х 6 (24)
At this point I start stuffing the head with fiberfill. First, I stuff the top of the head,
then I put the rattle ball into the middle and stuff the sides of the head (the rattle ball should
stay in the middle of the head so I put the stuffing around it evenly).

6
Row 24: (2 sc, dec) х 6 (18)
Row 25: (1 sc, dec) х 6 (12)
Row 26: 6 dec
Important! I make the stuffing of the head in Rows 20 – 25 (decrease rows) especially
tight. This will help to form the cheeks in the process of tightening the muzzle.

Sew the head to the ring

Important! If you want the head of the toy to stay tight on the ring and not to move in
the process of using it you have to fulfil two conditions:

1. The piece of crocheting should stay tight on the ring and not move on it;
2. The head should be sewn to this piece the right way.

Recommendations: in order to sew the head the right way press it to the ring on top
with your fingers. Keep pressing the head and sew it at all the places where it touches the
piece of crocheting on the ring and not only at the centre. Otherwise the head will dangle.

9
The tightening of the eyes is the same for all of my toys. So, if you have my crochet
patterns, make the same actions as it is explained there.
Consists of two stages:
Tighten the eyes down. For tightening the eyes, I take a long needle. Insert the long thread
of the body colour into this needle.
1. Insert the needle into the middle of the neck, draw it out at the center of the outer part
of the first eye;
2. Insert the needle into the center of the inner part of this eye, draw it out at the middle of
the neck where it was inserted at the start;
3. There will be a loop, tighten it;
4. Insert the needle with the same thread into the middle of the neck slightly to the right
(1sc) from the point where it was first inserted. Draw it out at the centre of the outer part
of the second eye;
5. Insert the needle into the center of the inner part of the second eye, draw it out at the
neck again. There will be a loop, tighten it;
6. Pull one end of the thread, then pull the other one. If the eyes are not symmetrical fix
them by hand.
You can leave the tightening at this stage. But I prefer to make the 2 nd stage as well,
I tighten the eyes to the center. Keep working with the same thread:
1. Insert the needle into the middle of the neck, draw it out at the center of the upper part
of the first eye.
2. Insert the needle into the center of the lower part of this eye, draw it out at the middle of
the neck again. There will be a loop, tighten it from the muzzle’s side.
3. Make the same actions with the second eye.
Thus, the eyes are set deep and beautiful cheeks are formed.
Tie the ends of the threads that are left after the tightening of the eyes together, cut
them and hide them into the head.

10
11
Ears.
Option №1
Row 1: 6 sc in mc (6)
Row 2: (1 sc, inc) х 3 (9)
Row 3: (2 sc, inc) х 3 (12)
Row 4: (3 sc, inc) х 3 (15)
If you want the ear to be of two colours, change the colour at this stage.
Row 5: (4 sc, inc) х 3 (18)
Row 6: (5 sc, inc) х 3 (21)
Row 7: 21 sc
Fold the ear into two halves and work 10 sc through the both sides. Cut the thread leaving
a long tail for sewing.

Option №2
Each ear consists of two parts. First, work two pieces with pink colour:
Row 1: Cast on 2 ch. Then start working back and forth rows starting each row with 1 ch.
Row 2: 1 ch, 1 sc, 1 inc (3)
Row 3: 1 ch, 2 sc, 1 inc (4)
Row 4: 1 ch, 3 sc, 1 inc (5)
Row 5: 1 ch, 2 sc, inc, 2 sc (6)

12
Row 6: 1 ch, inc, 2 sc, inc, 2 sc (8)

Then work the piece around with sc, work increases of 2 sc at the corners. Cut the thread.
Work the same piece with brown colour. Then fold the brown and the pink pieces together
and work them together with sc. Work increases of 2 sc at the corners. Work an increase
of 3 sc in the top corner, so that the ear is pointed.

13
How to assemble the toy
1. Embroider the nose at the level of Rows 17 and 18 of the head.

2. Do the tightening.
Take the thread of the same colour as the nose and insert it into a long needle. Tie a
knot at the end of the thread. Insert the needle into the centre of the head (into mc) and
draw it out at the center of the neck. The thread will be caught up with fiberfill inside.
Insert the needle into the center of the nose and draw it out at the center of the head (at
mc). Pull tight. You can do these actions several times. In order to fasten the tightening,
insert the needle into mc and draw it out at the center of the back of the neck. Cut the
thread.

14
3. Embroider the whites of the eyes with white thread. Embroider the eyebrows and the
eyelashes with black thread at the level of Row 11 of the head. Embroider the whiskers at
the level of Rows 17-19 of the head. For doing it, separate 1 thread into 4 strands and use
only one of them.
4. Embroider the bridge of the nose (make a few stitches at the top of the nose with the
body colour).

5. Sew the ears

If you have ears made with option №1, sew them at the level of Rows 4-13 of the head.
The ears made with option №2 are to be sewn at the level of Rows 5-12 of the head.

15
The mouse
Body:
Row 1: 8 sc in mc
Row 2: 8 inc (16)
Rows 3 – 7: 16 sc – 5 rows
Stuff the mouse with fiberfill in the process of making it.
Row 8: (6 sc, dec) х 2 (14)
Row 9: (5 sc, dec) х 2 (12)
Row 10: (4 sc, dec) х 2 (10)
Row 11: (3 sc, dec) х 2 (8)
Pull the thread through the front loops, hide the end into the body.
Ears
6 sc into mc, but do not work sl st. Sew the ears between Rows 7 and 8 of the head. Embroider
the eyes and the nose.
Tail
Join the thread with a hook to the back part of the body and work 36 ch.

16
Sew the mouse to the piece of crocheting on the wooden ring. Wrap the tail around the ring
an sew it at the end.

The rose
1: Cast on 38 ch, from the 3rd stitch from the hook work 2 hdc into every stitch till the
end of the row;
2: Do not cut the end. Twist the piece into a roll and fasten it with a needle at the base.
3. Work the strap: 60 ch.
4. Sew the rose at the center of the strap.
