Prostitution and the Society For a long time, sex workers live at the bottom of the society.

It seems like that is a constant society truth, and they are born to be the lowest class without people s respect and become the victim of the politics. Many countries claim that they are protecting sex workers rights and safety by implementing new laws and policies. However, government officials do not realize that they are doing more harm but not good to them. Even in developed states, people chase equality for everyone, but it does not mean the discrimination or unfairness do not exist. The hierarchy will never be eliminated inside a society. There is a debate around the first world states. Two groups of feminists and international relations theorists are holding different perspectives on sex workers. One of them has similar insists compared to government officials. They believe that sex workers are symbols of women s general sexual oppression. From their point of view, it is just like all the people could work together with the political agents of the state to stop exploitation and prostitution as a whole. However, they view the action and prostitution within the sex trade industry through a victimization perspective. Indeed, they are all hypocrites under the name of morality. On the other hand, the other majority theorists, like international relationship theorists, have put forward different attitudes towards the sex workers. They analyze problems from this minority s standpoint, thinking that the government is actually not protecting but punishing the sex workers. They insist the understanding of sex workers race, gender, social, economical perspectives or from the angle of the actual sex workers. However, the government has been misunderstanding them for a long time, regardless their historical background, and replacing the actual causes of the social problems by migrants arrival. As far as I am concerned, it is overwhelming important for government officials and public to understand sex workers actual need, their historical background, and their interest. And also, it is necessary for everyone to know the abuse of power and the use of violence by the state. First of all, everything related to the sex workers or sex trade industry is regarded as immorality. For the sake of the historical reason, the conservative ideas and thinking are still in certain elder generations mind, which consist majority of the population of the world. The fact remains still, sex workers are immoral. In a word, everything within the sex trade industry is

attached with discrimination which made them hard to fight their rights. If you think these are all the unequal of them, it would be huge mistake. All the discrimination is just the beginning of their painful life, but not the outcome. A country s government is made up by many officials who live in the highest hierarchy of the society. They advocate that everyone inside a country is equal and equally treated. They insist they will fight for everyone, because everyone is important participating inside the country. Generally speaking, some of them intend to make a great achievement in their official career, but they do not really care what the sex workers need. Therefore, their abuse of power and the use of violence became the disaster of sex workers. By stating that these sex workers are immoral and of bad origin, the country justifies the point of not needing to protect these sex workers. Furthermore, the country would even term them as whores or are agents within society that are promoting and practising illegal activities. The use of violence against sex and domestic workers by the state and other institutions, all in the name of maintaining public order and protecting national security and international interests, become invisible. The state attaches some new great name for their unexposed violence in order to hide the truth and its desire of reputation, which blind the public s eyes. Then, the state shifts the public s attention for the gruesome realities of a system of exploitation within the international sex trade industry by placing it directly on the migrant sex trade workers themselves. The shifted attention to the bad influences that the migrant sex worker would bring into the society, is the second step that the state takes to hide their violence and the brutality of an economic system based on profit and inequality. At the same time, the advanced technologies, like media and internet, is used to mislead the public, which incurs more damage to sex workers daily lives. As time goes by and the truth being deflected day after day, the causes of the social problems simplified to a certain degree, and this is all the sake of the migrants arrivals. Eventually, the women are blamed for the social problems and become the victims of pimps and organized crime, followed by the enforcement of new laws and immigration policies. Many theorists within the field of international relations tend to focus their attention on economic and market factors or the notion that the sex workers are of bad origin. It is true that economic and market factors are very important. But obviously, the state and government is not doing harm on the sex workers, but not protecting them. Some theorists who advocate the true equality and rights for these sex workers insist that there is a need to understand the

prostitution situation from a much deeper level. All they need is to be considered actual workers and have the rights that other workers have. So if the government enacts some new laws or policies, it will punish them and lead an inherent damage in their jobs. What will happen if they quit the sex industry? How can they make a living, will they be able to find a job as others? Or is there any story behind their job so that they have to be sex workers? One cannot merely label the sex workers in one manner or the next. We cannot use the analogy approach between two different sex workers. For example, if a beautiful woman is cheated to Canada with 2 or 3 children and she is no specific technique, she has to be the sex worker to maintain the cost of their family and her children s tuition fees. As for me, I really do not know what the sex workers actual needs are, but this is what government officials need to spend time to focus on. Regressive and restrictive immigration laws placed upon the migrant sex workers are then ignored by the general public. And very few people are putting their attention to meeting the needs of migrant sex workers. They are more concerned about building larger analyses about how the situation of migrant sex workers is going to fit into their social political agenda. The state has to change this situation, trying to define the position of sex workers and the sex trade industry. The government should stop misleading public, and is should increase awareness of people from all walks of life, sex workers are part of the community and are human beings. They need to be treated as equals and have the same rights under the state s law. The social problem of sex workers must separate from other social problems, and be taken into consideration at the same important priority. Everyone should work together to pressure the state to truly enhance the livelihood of them and not just enforce policies that only benefit the country itself.
