Wave Optics Project

This document outlines an investigatory project on wave optics for Class XII students, covering key topics such as interference, diffraction, and polarization of light. It includes sections on theory, historical context, experimental setups, and real-life applications. The project aims to demonstrate the wave nature of light through experiments like Young's Double Slit Experiment.

INTRODUCTION
Wave optics, also known as physical optics, is a branch of optics that studies interference,
diffraction, polarisation, and other phenomena for which the ray approximation of geometrical
optics is not valid.

YOUNG’S DOUBLE SLIT EXPERIMENT

This experiment demonstrates the interference of light and helps prove the wave nature of light.

DIFFRACTION OF LIGHT
Diffraction is the bending of light around corners or the spreading of light waves when they pass
through small openings.

POLARISATION OF LIGHT
Polarisation refers to the orientation of the oscillations of light waves in a specific direction.
