What Is a Conjunction?

A conjunction is a word that joins two or more words, phrases, or sentences together.
Conjunctions help make our writing and speaking more interesting by linking ideas.

Common Conjunctions:

Here are some of the most common conjunctions you will use:

●​ but​

●​ or​

●​ because​

●​ so​

1. Using "And"

We use and to add more information.

Examples:

●​ I like apples and oranges.​

●​ She plays soccer and basketball.​

2. Using "But"

We use but to show a difference or opposite.

Examples:
●​ I want to go outside, but it is raining.​

●​ He is tall, but she is short.​

3. Using "Or"

We use or to show a choice between two things.

Examples:

●​ Do you want juice or milk?​

●​ We can play inside or outside.​

4. Using "Because"

We use because to explain why something happens.

5. Using "So"

We use so to show result or cause and effect.
