NEED TO CHECK
Pre - Assessment
LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
1.Illustrate addition as “ putting together, combining, or joining sets”
2.Visualizes and adds two one-digit and three one- digit numbers.
3.Adds two one-digit numbers using appropriate mental techniques.
4.Visualize and add numbers with sum through 99 with and without regrouping.
I. NEED TO CONNECT
Look at the picture below.
This is Dora, she is pointing on something.
Can you tell if what did she saw?
If you answered 8 birds, then you are correct. But how did you get the right
answer?
2 + 6 = 8 is an addition sentence.
The symbol ( = ) means “equal to”
The “plus” ( + ) sign is a part of an
addition sentence that means “to add to”
2 + 6 = 8 birds
The “sum” is the answer to an addition
sentence.
III. NEED TO DISCUSS
2 + 6 = 8 addition sentence
Addends sum
Examples:
Addition sentence
+ = 11 7 + 4 = 11
+ = 10 8 + 2 = 10
Remember: We can change the position of the addends and the sum remains the
same.
Example:
5 + 4 = 9 is also the same as 4 + 5 = 9
3 + 2 = 5 is also the same as 2 + 3 = 5
1. 10 + 3 = 13
3 + 10 = 13
2. 4 + 5 = 9
5 + 4 = 9
3. 5 + 1 = 6
1 + 5 = 6
Example:
6 + 4 = ________ , you can count on 7, 8, 9, 10.
4 counts
6 + 4 = 10
Counting on is that you start with the biggest number in the addends, and then you
count on.
To practice more on adding mentally, try to do (Explore) of your Math for Life
book page 141 with your parents or guardians. Be prepared on your next online
class because your teacher might ask you to do mental addition.
What is 23 + 12?
V. NEED TO APPLY
Answer the activity in your Math for Life book on pages 123, 124,125 ( Explore,
Check your Understanding and Practice) page 133 ( Check your Understanding).
