Our Vision…
“To be the most widely respected and successful Formwork company in the UAE”
To help achieve this we must present our customers with drawings which are of consistently high quality. All our
drawings should look as though they aredrawn by one person and should all show the same level of detail.
The following guidelines should help everyone to understand the expected level of detail – at the end of this
document there isa checklist, which you should use for every scheme you produce to ensure high quality standards.

Section 1: Customer drawings
If you are using a customers dwg to construct a formwork falsework scheme, you should convert the relevant parts of
the customers drawing to RS Group standard entities and copy the now standard entities into an RS Group drawing
template.
If you are working on an RS Group drawing, which is found to have non standard RS Group layers, you should
convert the parts to RS Group standard entities by either using the match properties tools or move the entities to the
correct layer and after which ever method you choose, you must purge the drawing to remove any non standard
layers.
Section 2: Templates
RS Group currently provides 3 drawing templates:
A1 RS Template
A3 RS Template
A4 RS Template (Portrait & Landscape)
Any RS Group scheme must be drawn using one of these templates. You should NEVER alter the templates as this
can cause important details to be overlooked. It may also create problems with future releases of RS Group.
If you are requested by a client to either alter an RS Group template or to work on their template, you MUST gain
approval from the regional chief engineer. If approved the template must be created and issued by the CAD support
department.
Section 3: Layers
Anything that is drawn using standard AutoCAD tools like line, is drawn on the current layer and care should be
taken to ensure the correct layer is selected. Nothing should be drawn on Layer 0. All entities within an RS Group
scheme should be placed on a standard layer.
Section 4: Blocks
RS GROUP folders on your “Z” drive have within them all the blocks you should need to complete a standard RS
GROUP design.
Section 5: Dimensions
Dimension style
Using the RS GROUP interface and RS GROUP drawing templates, there should be no issues with dimension styles
as these are automatically set up. Our drawings should not include any dimensions copied from the customer
drawing, as these are not RS GROUP standard and may disrupt settings and prevent the RS GROUP dimensions
from displaying correctly.
Setting out Dimensions
Dimensions should be provided to enable the contractor to set out equipment accurately and easily from the
structure such as walls and columns. Distances between shoring towers should also be shown on plan.
Equipment should always be positioned accurately from datum points – i.e. 600, 900 not 597.46, 900. Distances
between separate towers should also be accurate and where possible round numbers – 50mm increments ideally.
Where not automatically inserted by program, base jack extensions must be dimensioned. Where possible jack
extensions should be the same throughout the area for ease of setting up and also accurate to round numbers –
50mm increments ideally.

General dimensions
The purpose of an RS GROUP drawing is to enable the contractor to safely and accurately erect our equipment. The
details shown on our drawings should be solely for this purpose. We do not need to detail any areas or items which
do not effect the layout and erection of our scheme for the following reasons:
• Unrequired details may detract attention from important details.
• It is a waste of our time.
Section 6: Text size and style
Any text on a drawing should be either RS GROUP Standard or Heading. The size of the text must not be altered as
it is set up to always appear the correct size on the paper regardless of the viewport scale.
Section 7: Section lines and levels
Only the standard RS GROUP section arrows and level markers should be used and all customer details should be
removed.
Section 8: Titles
Titles should be added to all sections and also the plan. These should be in the Heading style.
Section 9: Timber and Ply
On general shoring schemes, Ply and Timber should be shown for indication only. It is the customer’s responsibility
to ensure adequate design and erection of these. On tables and wall formwork it may be necessary to design the
formwork also.
A standard 18mm ply rectangle shown on top of secondary beams on section and a 100mm wide timber side form is
generally sufficient to indicate timber and ply.
Section 10: Viewports
All viewports on a drawing should have a scale of either:
1:10, 1:100, 1:1000
1:25, 1:250, 1:2500
1:5, 1:500, 1:5000
1:75, 1:750
1:20, 1:200, 1:2000
Annotation visibility
Note: If a viewport is set to scale prior to adding any dimensions, you will need to set the scale to a different scale
and then change it back to the required scale in order to resize the dimensions.
If a scheme is too large in any direction to fit into a viewport with a scale of 1:100, then the scheme needs to be
broken down over multiple drawing sheets, because on a scale larger than that important details may not be seen.
Viewport scale should be locked after a scale has been selected. All viewport visual styles should be set to 2D
wireframe and there is no place for renders or perspective views on a formwork or falsework scheme. All viewport
view points should be setup so that you are looking at plan, elevation or section and not isometric.

Also, be aware that drawings may end up being printed smaller than the template size. It is for this reason that it is
recommended that on the default RS GROUP template (A1), viewport scales should not exceed 1:100 as when
printed on A3 is effectively 1:200.
A viewport scale set at 1:100 on an A0 template is roughly 1:280 if the sheet is plotted A3. This of course is
unreadable. Therefore, if for any reason a client should request a sheet larger than A1, it would be advisable to keep
the drawing template set to A1 and plot it stretched to the required size. This keeps things simpler for the designers
who can continue to use the same standard viewport scales.
Section 11: Publishing
Plotting internal
When plotting drawings for internal distribution and checking, all printouts should be in BLACK & WHITE with plot
style MONOCHROME. The plot device should also be set to BLACK & WHITE, otherwise the title block will printout
in colour.
Plotting for clients
When plotting drawings for clients all printouts and the plot deivice should be in COLOUR otherwise the drawing will
printout in black & white.
Note: It costs thirteen times more to print in colour in any size on all RS GROUP plotters.
Electronic distribution
When distributing drawings externally you must NEVER send them in dwg format as they could potentially be
modified and RS GROUP could be held accountable if mistakes were created as a result. All electronic distribution
should be in A1 DWF format ONLY, where external parties can view and markup RS GROUP drawings In
AutoDesk’s DWF viewer but not modify the original drawing.
Note: If clients do not have DWF viewer they can download it from AutoDesk’s website free of charge.
Section 12: Special Notes
Special notes should have an RS GROUP leader from the point on the drawing which requires the note, to the note
which should be STANDARD RS GROUP text size, colour and font.
Note: Thought should be given to content of the note to see whether it already exists in an RS GROUP standard
template note.
Section 13: Detailing Notes
Standard detailing notes are included in the RS GROUP templates or can be found in the notes menu. There should
be no reason to re-create these notes.
Should you find there is a standard note that is not included in the template or in the menu, contact CAD support and
they will provide you with a detail or will advise on what to do.
Note: Standard detailing note requests are subject to divisional approval.
Section 14: Files
Note: It is the responsibility of every AutoCAD user to make sure that files on which they were working with, are
saved on their respective office server before they leave for the day.
Note: If the file you wish to work on has been opened by another user and is only available in read only you need to
contact that person and ask them to close it so you can edit that version.
Layout TAB Names:
Should be “Model” for the modelspace and all paperspace layouts should correspond to the sheet number of the
sheet set followed by a decimal point and the current revision, so that it can be 01 to 99 sheets in 1 drawing file.

altered or reproduced without permission. RS GROUP reserves the right to change any specification. CL 17/01/2017
For example
A sheet number could be 01-R0 or 03-R2.
Only 1 drawing file per sheet set is permitted.
Names:
Drawing file names should be of the following format
Client Code- Project Code– Work type- Project No.
Job Code numbers are assigned by the Engineering Manager .
The issue of drawings to clients is only permitted in Pdf format. Dwg files can only be issued with the permission of
the Managing Director.
Revisions
If you are to revise a sheet before you start, create a folder referring to the correct revision e.g. Revision A, Revision
B etc within the correct client folder and design number. Copy the original drawing file into this and begin the revision
starting with title block information, revision number and amendment note. Revision Tab numbers should only
increase where changes to a sheet or status have occurred and only in the changed sheets. When a drawing file has
changed, the revision in the file name needs to be increased by the letter of the alphabet.
Ultimately within each folder you will be left with the original drawings then sub folders for each revision required.
Example
The example below shows 2 drawing files for a project with indication of client name, project location, work type and
job no.
1743-02-10-R0
2534-01-01-R1
Location
Drawing files should be saved on the server in the respective client folder and job number. Ensure that forward
slashes are used ( / ) instead of dashes (-) for job codes.
Examples
1743-02-10-R0
A file named like this should have a path name like
1743 - 02 - 10 - R0
last 4 digit from PQ inquiry
structure number
sheet number
revision number
Structure number are as follow:
01 - Walls
02 - Column
03 - Slabs
04 - Access
05 - Shoring
06 - Staircase
07 - Tie beams, foundation
08 - Special
09 - Manufacture
