Advantages

Optimal section shape: high stiffness and

strength in proportion to the weight.

Double lip: (S M D E F 2 + series) for even

more strength and stiffness for a given section
depth; Also safer for handling because of
radlused edges.
Weight-saving: easier to handle than the hot-
rolled alternatives.
Pre-engineered: together with the specially
designed accessories (cleats, anti-sag bars, diago
nal tie wires and suchlike) E3^\l_fc> offers a full
package for roof purlins, side rails, etc.
Hole pattern made to requirement: practi
cally unlimited perforation possibilities increase
the functionality and allow all kinds of connec
tions to be fitted without having to drill extra
holes.
Duplex finish: full powder coating service avail
able both for accessories and sections. We can

Beam systems

S M I E F ' 2 and 2 + sections can be

used as single span beams, double span
beams or as a continuous beam.

You receive the optimal beam system -

depending on your deflection limits - with a
double span or a continuous sleeve beam.
Cleat
Our design office can define the most suit
able beam system for your specific appli
cation.

Detailed drawing of a sleeve connection.

Double span beam system

I I I I I I I I
Double span beams should be placed In an alternating (staggered) pattern, so that the load is evenly distributed over the
substructure.

I I I I I I I I
By means of a sleeve single, span beams can be coupled to the double span beams. In that way, you avoid the use of heavier end bays.

In case of larger spans (> 8 m where double span beams can no longer be transported economically) sleeving Is required on
penultimate rafters and should be staggered on intermediate rafters.

Continuous sleeve beam

I I I I I I I I
In case of large spans, a continuous sleeve beam is usually the best solution. If necessary, the end bays can be fitted with a
thicker section and/or the first and last sleeve can be fitted off centre.

M ezzanine floors

Possibilities
S ^ M Z E F " 2 and 2 + floor beams can be used In most floor
covering systems (board, steel sheet, etc.).

Fitting of flooring elements (boards, steel sheet, etc.) to the

floor beams is of utmost Importance. A minimum of
3 screws per linear meter Is required to ensure sufficient lat
eral stiffness to the S ^M Z IE F '-beam s
Secondary beams can be laid out either In between
(= flush with) or across (= on top of) the main beams.
Continuous secondary beams (usually beams spanning two
bays) provide the most economical solution, but they result in
a greater overall depth.

Our design office will find the most appropriate solution.

B M I E F ^ and 2 + floor beams can be fitted, as an optional extra, with

a special cut-out (AutoNotch) so as to make the connection with the main
beams easier and more compact. For further details consult our leaflet

Beam systems

S ^ M Z E F " Zed sections can be used as single span beams, double span beams or as continuous overlap beams. The optimal beam sys
tem Is, In most cases, a continuous overlap beam.

Owing to the small difference in flange width, It is possible to have the S ^ M Z E F " Zed sections overlap at Internal supports so as to obtain
a continuous beam that spans several supports. An added advantage, in this respect, is that a double section at the point of the central
supports (where the forces are the greatest) Is provided. This means that the material is used to optimum effect. Our design office can deter
mine the best beam system for your specific application.

There are several possibilities for optimizing the beam system: adjust the overlap length (between 5 and 15 % of the span), use
heavier wall beams or a double "nested" beam on end bays.

Integrated connections

Quick Connections

Sim plicity itself

The new B M D E F sections are now even simpler

to join. From now on, two bolts are sufficient to
join the components, as the brackets are fully Inte
grated Into the sections. Fewer components make
for easier and quicker assembly.

Lightweight building components

Indeed, the new sections are, once again, as light

as you have come to expect from E3MLJEF" and,
w hat's more, as strong as ever.

The new system doesn't compromise on bearing

capacity either. This is because the strength of the
system doesn't depend on the weight of its com
ponents.

Quality is time and money

Could we have made it any better? The new

assembly system reduces not only the bill of
materials but also the number of operations. With
the easy handling of the sections, the
conclusion becomes crystal-clear: you save on
materials, time and money. In a nutshell: you win
in three fields.

Alignment of roofpurlins and side rails
By means of anti-sag bars

In case of longer spans, roof purlins and side rails must

be capped upright during cladding. Roof purlins can be
aligned by means of anti-sag bars and diagonal tie wires
or apex ties. Side rails can be aligned by means of anti Anti-sag bar

□ M J E F beams may have sufficient stiffness to avoid
the use of anti-sag bars. Consult our design office.

By means of tem porary measures

As an alternative to the alignement of roof purlins and

side rails by means of anti-sag bars, a temporary mea
sure such as timber boards with spacers/blocks can be
used. (If anti-sag bars are not applied in the wall, then
the substructure - e.g. a concrete skirting - has to sup
port the wall cladding).

If, in the design, allowance Is made for the diaphragm

action of the cladding for the purpose of stabilizing the
beams, then the cladding sheeting must be at least
0.63 mm thick and be fixed, by means of selftapping
screws (or any equivalent alternative), to the sections (at
least 1 screw per 2 ribs).

prevent deformation of the purlins.
