What Inspired Falguni Nayar to Start Nykaa?


Falguni Nayar had a great job working at a big bank for almost 20 years. But even
though she was successful, she always dreamed of building her own company. She
noticed that in India, it was hard to find good beauty and skincare products online.
People weren’t sure if the products were real, and shopping was not fun. So, at the
age of 50, when most people are thinking about retiring, she took a big risk and
started Nykaa – a beauty and makeup website just for India.

What Were the Big Moments in Her Journey?


Starting Nykaa in 2012 was the first big step. At first, it was just a website that
sold beauty products. But then she started opening Nykaa stores in malls. This
helped more people see and trust her brand. Another huge moment came in 2021,
when Nykaa became such a big company that it got listed on the stock market –
and Falguni became one of the richest self-made women in India!

What Helped Her Grow Nykaa?


Falguni had some great support systems:
She got investors to help her with money to grow the business. India’s internet
and smartphones made online shopping easier. She had experience from her banking
