Activity 3: Read for main ideas (7 mins)

- Ask Ss to identify the key words in each heading. Remind Ss that the correct heading must
express the idea of the whole paragraph, not just one detail;

- Invite Ss to share their key words;

- Tell Ss to read individually and match the headings with the appropriate paragraphs. Remind Ss
that there is one extra heading that they may not need to use. Ss will have 4 minutes to read;

- Tell Ss to compare their answers with their partners;

- Invite Ss to share their answers and evidence from the text;

- Provide the correct answers and give explanations. - Read four headings and underline
key words;

- Volunteer to share key words;

- Read the text to match the headings with the appropriate paragraphs;
- Compare answers with partners;

- Volunteer to share answers and give evidence from the text;

- Listen to T’s explanation and correct wrong answers. Read the article again. Match the
following headings (1 - 4) with the appropriate paragraphs (A - C). There is ONE extra heading.
