Greetings of peace and joy! We are from Batas Tomasino (BaTo), a university-wide law student organization of the University of Santo Tomas. Dedicated to the pursuance of a just and humane society, we would like to give our fellow students opportunities to be molded into intelligent, holistic and nation-serving professionals that we hope them to be in the future. UST, as part of its mission-vision, commits itself to the Christian formation of Thomasians and university partner communities in becoming agents of social transformation, pursuing the effective and sustained involvement of the Thomasian community; envisions partner communities and at-risk sectors that are self-reliant, interdependent, and empowered, contributing to a Philippine society that is maka-Diyos, maka-tao, maka-bayan, at makakalikasan. Hence, if we really aim the wellness of the health and being of every Filipino, we shall also advocate the need for action towards various ills of our environment and human rights nowadays.

In this regard, the UST-Batas Tomasino, in partnership with UP One Earth and other non-government and student organizations, is organizing Kontra Mina that will focus on discussing the growing exigencies of mining that affect our environment and human health and the impact of contemporary environmental laws in the Philippines. The following topics in the series are Youth for Environmental Advocacy, Philippine Mining Situation 2012, Philippine Mining & Environmental Laws, Tourism + Agriculture + Good Governance = Better Economy Mining, Philippine Mining

Sites of Struggle on February 21, 2012. This Forum Series is also geared to instill in students/future professionals, as stated in our Universitys mission-vision, the idea of social responsibility so that they may learn its value early on, and hopefully, it will be inherent in all the decisions and actions in their future careers. This would truly implant in their hearts the inevitable link between our well-being and the well-being of Gods other creations. May the memories and lessons they would create from this event mold them into compassionate and well-rounded individuals. In line with this, we would like to request your good office to allow us to hold our forum on February 20-21, 2012, 7:00AM-5:00PM. Attached thereto are the Project Proposal, Budget Proposal, and Program for your reference. We shall appreciate your support in our quest to uplift the social consciousness of the youth. Thank you and God bless! Sincerely yours, MARISSE JANN F. CASTILLON Project Head Executive Assistant, Batas Tomasino Noted by: ROCHELLE ANNE O. OBLENO Acting President, Batas Tomasinol
