CREATIVITY
CONCEPT OF CREATIVITY:
* It means to make something new.
* It is a search for undiscovered truth.
* It involves inventing new things or coming up
with new ideas.
* It means improving existing things.

TYPES OF CREATIVE PERSONS


There are two types of creative persons and they are
as follows:
a. The creative person who can create but puts in
a lot of effort.
b. The GENIUS, who has great and unlimited
ability to create as if without a lot of effort.
QUALITIES OF A CREATIVE PERSON
(CREATIVE ATTITUDES)

If a person wants to be creative, he/she should be:


* Hardworking
* Hopeful and self-disciplined
* Prepared to accept challenges and tasks
* Able to generate interest and love in the work
* Prepared to try out new thing (original)
* Committed to his work
* Imaginative and understanding
* Constantly resourceful
* To fit into a new situation
* Curious
* Able to explore
DISCUSS CREATIVITY IN OUR WAY OF DOING
THINGS
We must do the following things, if we want to be
creative:

* Comport ourselves whenever we are in any


gathering.
* Know how to dress well
* Keep our environment clean always
* Know how to talk in public so as not to
offend people around us
* Assist people who are in difficulties.
THE CREATIVE ENVIRONMENT

Creative environment is the one in which we can have the


resources and ideas to create without limitations. It is the
environment which makes it possible for us to be creative
according to our highest abilities.

The characteristics of a creative environment


are as follows:
* Freedom to rebel against stifling conditions
* Freedom to make things different from other things
* The acceptance that every one has something good to
him/her hence he/she should be given the chance to grow, by
offering the person the same chance as given to others.
* Refraining from judging people when
we do not know much about them, or what
they can do.
* Freedom for people to try out their
ability without fear.
* The acceptance of people with their
weakness, and providing them with
opportunity to develop.
THE CREATIVE PROCESS
The creative process involves, basically, the
following four steps:
expert.

a. PERIOD OF PREPARATION
It embraces all experiences in life. It also includes
a specific type of preparation of each work. For
example a graphic designer or textile student
learns all the skill to become perfect. Creative
process also is a period for training oneself to
become an expert.
b. INCUBATING PERIOD
This is the time when the creative person face difficulties
in his creativity. At this point he may abandon the problem
to do something else. However he accepts this situation
and does not give up altogether. He is hopeful to solve the
problem. In some cases too, he does not leave the work.
He keeps trying again and again until he fiends a solution.

c. PERIOD OF INSIGHT OR INSPIRATION


As the creative person does different thing together, he
think seriously and idea clicks he gives form to the idea in
a medium or material. This can take days, weeks, months
or a year. However, he is always helpful
d. PERIOD OF EVALUATION
At this point, the creative person works harder with great
you. He aims at finishing the work. He may show the work
to friends or experts for their appreciation, criticism and
judgement.

SOME CREATIVE ACTIVES


Some of the secretive activity is as follows:
* Making of toy cars using milk/milo tins
* Making brushes form coconut husk, sisal hemp
* Extraction of colour from plants, earth (soils)
* Making of furniture and basket from cane
* Making bags from hides and skin.
* Fabrication of earrings using seeds/Bamboo/shells
ASPECT OF LIFE AND SUBJECTS WHERE
CREATIVITY IS POSSIBLE
* We see creativity in the following areas:
- Engineering - Law
- The civil service - trade
- Science - Politics
- Medicine - Teaching
- The military - farming
- The police - fishing

However, creativity is mostly seen in all forms of art that is


- Music - leatherwork
- Dance - ceramic/Pottery
- Drama - sculpture
- Painting - textiles
- Literature - graphic design
- Cinema - Jewellery
- Calabash - Basketry

USES OF CREATIVITY
The concept of creativity helps to distinguish man from
other creatures by the use of the hand, intellect and sense to
make art works. The creative person uses three domains for
the production of items. These are the cognitive-
(intellectual skills) – psychomotor (manipulative skills) and
the effective skill (hear).

Creativity therefore is a unique characteristic of man to


solve problems and satisfy needs. Example, clothing, food,
shelter, health, hands and processes to make items that
satisfy need.
