I. INTRODUCTION
Tree planting is not necessarily more important than tree planting. Both
activities are crucial for maintaining the global tree cover. Tree planting
contributes to global reforestation efforts, restoring lost forests, repairing damaged
ecosystems, and mitigating climate changes. On the other hand, tree growing
allows ecosystems to develop and mature, supporting biodiversity and ecological
balance. In other words, both tree planting and growing are essential for
maintaining and increasing the global trees cover, which has numerous social, and
economic benefits and these methods will help the environment to heal itself from
global warming and cooling our planet (Metgroup, 2022).
Sacred Mountain National Park or also known as “Mount Mupu” in Marawi
City, Lanao del Sur, Philippines, has a rich history and cultural significance. It is
an extinct volcanic cone, approximately 900 feet (270 meters) tall, located within
the Sacred Mountain National Park. The park covers an area of 94 hectares and is
known for its untouched trees and unique cone shape. The mountain is believed to
have spirits, known as "tonong" in the local dialect. This belief is deeply rooted in
the local culture and is often associated with the mountain's mysterious and awe-
inspiring nature (Disoma, 2014).
The mountain has been recognized for its biological importance, particularly
for its anuran species. Sacred Mountain has been the subject of several research
studies, including one on the species richness of spiders in the area. The area is
also home to several festivals and cultural events, such as the Maulid En Nabi,
which celebrates the birthday of Prophet Muhammad. The mountain offers
opportunities for birdwatching, mountain climbing, and other outdoor activities.
4
Visitors are warned not to climb the slopes due to safety concerns, but the area
remains a popular destination for nature lovers and adventure seekers.
In this proposal, the proponent observed that some of the trees are being cut
down because of illegal logging of some residents. After the barangay addressed
the concern and implemented a regulation and fines, there are lesser trees than the
previous years. So, for this proposal, tree planting and growing are a must to keep
the mountain have more trees and helps to reduce any natural disasters such as
global warming and climate change.
II. OBJECTIVES
The main objective of this proposal is to empower all people of the barangays
near the said mountain through volunteerism and that they have a great role in the
community to maintain the clean and green of the sacred mountain. This proposal
also aims to provide not only just planting trees but also maintaining the trees to
grow in days, months, to years of nurturing the trees. By empowering the people
in barangays, they will also improve their social involvement among each other
and appreciate positive behavior development by each one of them at any age.
In recreational perspective, tree planting and growing offers a variety of
benefits that enhance their overall well-being and provide opportunities for
socialization and community involvement, environmental benefits, mental health,
educational value, and personal growth. Tree planting and growing can be fun and
rewarding recreational activity for individuals twelve (12) years old and above.
5
III. RESPONDENTS
According to the Republic Act. No. 10176, also known as the “Arbor Day Act
of 2012”, all able-bodied citizens of the Philippines who are at least 12 years of
age are required to plant one (1) tree every year. The proponent decided to utilize
RA10176 for the proposed tree planting and growing program. Those who are
twelve (12) years of age or above are the respondents or the people who will help
to plant and grow trees.
This is because the physical development of people aged twelve (12),
experience rapid growth spurts, leading to increased muscle mass and strength and
mostly they can engage in more complex physical activities. The target number of
participants is at least one hundred (100) per barangay. Those one hundred (100)
participants should be coming from these three (3) LGUs, Guimba, Papandayan
Caniogan, and Papandayan, as they are near to each other and also near Mount
Mupu.
The proponent suggested that the request for permission letter should be given
to each barangay captain or head and list the interested participants for the
