Objectives:
At the end of this lesson the student should be able to:
 Identify and describe key components of holistic development;
 Apply reflective practices to enhance self-understanding; and
 Demonstrate empathy and respect in interpersonal interactions.

What is holistic development?


- Is the process of growing and developing the whole person.
- Is the interconnected growth of different aspects of ourselves, like understanding who we are, managing our
emotions, shaping our attitudes, and guiding our behavior.

Why it's important for personal growth?


- It's important because it helps us become better individuals and navigate life effectively by understanding
ourselves and others.

What are the various aspects of holistic development of a person?


Physiological – Cognitive – Psychosocial – Spiritual

What are the Aspects of Holistic Development

Self-awareness

-Is the ability to be aware of one's inner life.


- It includes being aware of: Thoughts, Feelings, Actions, Values, Preferences, Goals, Strengths, Challenges,
Attitudes, Mindsets.

Feelings

- Feelings arises from the brain as it interprets an emotion.


- Are the results from the emotions that were experienced.

Emotions

- Is taken from the latin verb, movare, which means to move or be upset or agitated. Also refers to variations of
levels of arousal.
- It is usually caused by the physical sensations experienced by the body as a reaction to stimulus.

Attitudes

- Are a person’s thoughts, feelings, and emotions about another person, objects, idea, behavior, or situation.
- Attitudes are learned tendencies to evaluate things.

Behavior

- A person's actions and reactions to their environment.


- Is an outward manifestation or acting out of the attitudes.

Lesson 5: "Adolescence"

Objectives:
At the end of this lesson the student should be able to:
 To identify the three stages of development,
 Describe the three stages of development, and
 Distinguish the three stages of development.

How Do You Define "Adolescence"?


- Adolescence is the transition period between childhood and early adulthood. It starts with the biological changes
called puberty.
What is puberty?
- It is a time of rapid brain development, identity formation, and many emotional changes

What Are the Stages of Adolescence?


In the Philippine context, the three stages of adolescence are:
• Early adolescence
• Middle adolescence
• Late adolescence

Early Adolescence
- between 10 and 13 years of age
- change in physical characteristics (height, facial hair for boys and start of periods for girls)
- developed in the abilities to think, learn, reason, and remember
- developed in emotions, expressions, attachment, and sociability
Middle Adolescence
- between 14 and 16 years of age
- urgency for freedom (independence)
- change in voice, increase need for sleep, and appetite increase
- developed in new thinking skills through humor and by arguing with parents and others
- worrying about what others think about them, grooming and exercising, frequent mood swings
Late Adolescence
- between 17 and 20 years of age
- physically and emotionally mature
- can fully express ideas and consider other points of view
- could gain financial independence
- future goals become defined
- seek one-on-one committed relationships and intimacy

Lesson 6: "Coping with Stress"

Objectives:
At the end of this lesson the student should be able to:
 I Discuss that understanding the stress and its source during adolescence may help in identifying ways to cope
and have a healthy life;
 Identify sources of one’s stress and illustrate the effects of stress on one’s system; and; and
 Demonstrate personal ways of coping with stress for healthful living.

What is a Stress?

- Is defined as a reaction of the mind and body to a stimulus that disturbs the well-being, state of calm, or
equilibrium of a person.
- Stress is a natural human response that prompts us to address challenges and threats in our lives.
- Everyone experiences stress to some degree. The way we respond to stress, however, makes a big difference to
our overall well-being.

There are several points of views about stress:


Stress as a Stimulus
- is caused by situations that may be life threatening or life changing.
Stress as Response
- is the way body reacts to a challenging situation.
Stress as Relational
- is when a person experiencing stress takes a step back to look at the situation that is causing stress and assesses
it.
2 TYPES OF STRESS

EUSTRESS

- Healthy Stress
- There are certain types of stress that can give benefit a person.
- These types of stress can motivate, energize, and spur an individual into fruitful action.

DISTRESS

- Unhealthy Stress
- Bad stress can be transformed into good stress depending on how an individual assesses the situation.

STRESSORS

- Is any event, circumstance, or stimulus that triggers the stress response in an individual.

Mental Health and Well-Being


- Mental health refers to a person's psychological, emotional, and social well-being. It encompasses how
individuals think, feel, and behave, as well as how they cope with stress, relate to others, and make choices.

- Well-being, encompasses mental health but also includes aspects such as physical health, social connections,
sense of purpose, and overall life satisfaction. It reflects a state of being content, happy, and fulfilled in different
areas of life.
