 The School of Computer & Systems Sciences, started way back in 1974, has
established itself as one of the important academic units of the university for
Teaching and Research in the area of Computer Education offering teaching
programs at MCA/ MTech /PhD levels.
The school attracts the best of the students from all over the country.

The curriculum of the school is developed and updated regularly to suit the changing
pattern of the teaching and research and the present day needs of the society and
industry. Besides imparting quality education, the training and the placement cell set
up at the school to maintain liaison with various Governments/Industrial
Organizations activity helps the students to find suitable careers.

I am glad that, as in the previous year, the school is bringing out a placement
brochure for the year 2024-25 with the up to date information about faculty,
students, course structure and facilities available to the students. I am sure, this

The School of Computer and Systems Sciences (SC&SS) laid a foundation in

the late 1974 to initiate academic programs in the realm of computer science.
With the introduction of the PhD Program in the 1974 and the Master of
Computer Applications (MCA) and MTech Programs in 1985.The school has
always provided a challenging yet nurturing environment for students,
fostering a strong moral character through the guidance of experienced
professors and interactive seminars.

The faculty's expertise and special lectures help students grasp the dynamic
nature of technology. The institution's alumni regularly visit to share insights
and keep students updated on the latest technology trends. SC&SS stands out
for its comprehensive computer science curriculum, shaping students' talent
in the field, including research and development.

As history says itself, the alumni working in domestic and multinational

companies have received felicitations and rewards for their outstanding

MTech PROGRAMME
Master of Technology (MTech) programme began in
1985. This two year programme (four semesters) is
designed to help students sharpen their analytical and
conceptual skills and develop methodological rigor in
dealing with real world problems. Students are prepared
to face the challenges of the highly competitive IT
industry and carry out research development.

The course structure ensures the overall development of

The school has major focus on research and offers PhD

program. The school currently has more than 300 PhD
students enrolled for the program.

The broad areas where research is going on are Databases,

Software Engineering, Artificial Intelligence & Robotics,
Computer Graphics & Multimedia, Wireless & Mobile
Communication, Parallel & Distributed Computing, Mobile
Ad-Hoc Networks, Natural Language Processing, Soft
Computing, Data Warehousing & Mining, System Software,
System Modeling & Simulation, Digital Image Processing,
Scientific Computing and Optimization.

SC&SS, in addition to the common labs, has specialized

research labs focusing on advanced research in computer
science & related areas.Each faculty member has a separate
dedicated research lab where research in areas of their
interest is carried out.

EVALUATION AND GRADING SYSTEM
JNU allows a semester system. Each semester is for the duration of six
months and is assigned a specific number of credits. MCA is a four
semester programme where a student has to secure 76 credits in all out
of which 68 credits is for the course work and 8 credits for the fourth
semester project work.
The course work is carried out in the first three semesters where each
student is required to study six courses(Compulsory & Elective) in each
semester. Each course of MCA carries 4/2 credit points.
On the other hand, MTech is a four semester programme
where a student has to secure 50 credits in all out of which at least 30
credits shall be for coursework, 5 credits for seminar and 15 credits for
the dissertation work. Each course of MTech carries 3 credit points.
The University follows a 9 point letter grading scale for evaluation of
student’s academic performance in the course during the semester.
The grades in each course of the semester are used to compute the
Semester Grade Point Average(SGPA).The Cumulative Grade Point
Average (CGPA) is calculated for the student up to and including the
semester for which it is required using the SGPA.
On completing the programme the student is assigned a Final Grade
Point Average (FGPA) denoting the final index of a student in the
courses.

 INFRASTRUCTURE

COMMON LABS

SC&SS provides modern and sophisticated computing facilities for

common use by students. It maintains three general labs, one Linux
lab, one microprocessor lab and one Oracle Lab. It has all the
paraphernalia to have the making of student to work miracle with
the cooperation of faculty members. It provides various platforms to
work with the taste of all manner of working elements. Computing
facilities for common use by students are available. SC&SS provides
one to one ratio of student to computer with 24 hours Internet
access and around 100 windows/Linux based systems. The Servers
in the labs are connected to 1000 Mbps LAN. The labs are also
equipped with the latest software’s catering to the academic needs
of the school.

Towering above all the
academic complexes in
university serene element,
sitting on the confluences of the
premises of school building is
our great and time-honored
central library.
It's ground floor has a
geographical spread of approx.
50000 Sq. ft. and the column of
nine-storey building has a floor
stretching itself in 6000 Sq. ft.
The library is one of the largest
repositories of books in the
country shelving 5 lakh books
and more than 50000 volumes.
It is adding 10000 books on an
average per year through the
agency of suggestions from
faculties and students from
different disciplines.

The Library also subscribes around 1000 journals, around

1000 serial the real McCoy, to quench the thirst for
knowledge of its contemporary research scholars from
the international and national arena.
The library is on the mailing list of nearly all leading
Newspapers of the world, all publications of the
Government of India, as well as international agencies like
WHO, UNESCO etc. The library has its own Local Network
connected with a strong server with 48 terminals inside
the library. Open Public Access Catalogue of the Library
has databases of Books, Serials and other material. It is a
member of the Delhi Library Network and INFLIBNET.

The Training and Placement Cell of SC&SS provides the opportunity to
the students by interacting with the industries at various platforms,
whether it is on- job training, in- house projects or final placements of
the students.

In order to carry out placement activities in the school, a placement

committee is constituted which comprises of a faculty member, acting
as a placement coordinator and representative from the student
community of the school. It is the devotion of the alumni in several
organizations, the faculty members and the students of the school that
