About JNU
Jawaharlal Nehru University is the foremost university in India and a world-renowned Centre for
teaching and research. Ranked number one in India by the National Assessment and
Accreditation Council (NAAC) with a Grade Point of 3.91 (on a scale of 4), JNU has secured 2nd
position for the last four years (2017 following 2020) among all the Universities of India by the
National Institutional Ranking Framework, Government of India. JNU also received the Best
University Award from the President of India in 2017.

Still, a young university, established by an act of Parliament in 1966, the strength, energy, and
reputation of Jawaharlal Nehru University result from the vision that ideas area field for
adventure, experimentation, and unceasing quest and that diversity of opinions are the basis for
intellectual exploration. JNU is the place for the intellectually restless, the insatiably curious, and
the mentally rigorous, giving them the space to grow amidst the calmness of an oasis, a green
lung within the hustle and bustle, and the crowds of the capital city of India. Coming into being in
1969, three years after its establishment by Parliament, JNU brought frontier disciplines and
newer perspectives for old disciplines to the Indian university system. The excellent teacher-
student ratio at 1:10, the mode of instruction which encourages students to explore their
creativity instead of reproducing received knowledge, and of exclusively internal evaluation, were
also new to the Indian academic landscape and have stood the test of time.

Almost every school is organized in a way to meet the basic instinct of academic, social, and
cultural plank of students’ lives. Besides the central library, every Centre provides a quotidian
library facility to save time and space. The research laboratory is made available to every
interested research scholar according to their area of interest under the aegis of grandstanding
renowned faculties of the school. Every School conducts seminars and conferences about the
recent and advanced topics in their respective subjects regularly to provide the students an
overview of the ongoing research in their field. University is a true glue promoter of cultural
activities, which has a strong unit of theatrical groupIPTA, which takes the pain and galvanizes the
renaissance against the shadows disseminated in our society. JNU family is a microcosm of the
social and cultural strata of a nation. The basic academic unit of the university consists of multi-
disciplinary schools enveloping the entire gamut of academic activities. It has been organized
according to the subject matter and methodology to give a platform to the community of scholars
to nurture and fertilize their talent.

About the School
The School of Computer and Systems Sciences laid a foundation in the late 1970s to initiate
academic programs in the realm of computer science. Tomorrow the demands of growing
curiosity and to fulfill the need of competent software professionals at home and abroad, our
School has been acting as a beacon under its resolute load-star ever since its inception.
Students from the school have always relished the challenging work whatever its nature be,
through good moral fiber. The moral fiber of the students is molded by eminent professors of
our university, through intra-facilities and through seminars conducted regularly to update the
day-to-day development of the kaleidoscopic nature of information technology.

The experienced faculties here always provide the channel to get charge out of challenging
work and also provide the chapter and verse of the protean character nontechnology through
special intermittent lectures and by dove- tailing with students. This interactive and
cooperative aura and the method of education are flower of techniques which have given an
umpteen number of talented chartered software professionals, who bring the laurel to our
institution.

With so many institutions providing the same education in computer science, SC & SS
advances over others in alumni's thrall, who pay regular visit through seminars to inculcate
and nurture the students in order to the school having to look its laurels from the very outset
of program in computer science and to have gumption of the latest technology.

SC & SS has reigned supreme, constantly giving that je ne sais quoi that distinguishes its
professionals from other institutions. The course curriculum of SC&SS is framed keeping the
whole basic instinct of Computer Science, which fuels and gears up the students’ talent in the
entire field, even in the Research and Development area. As history says itself, the alumni
working in domestic and multinational companies have got felicitations and rewards for their
outstanding performance and have outwitted and pre-empted professionals from other
institutions on several occasions. The course structure is updated regularly to fit with the
present demand of the technology The SC&SS, from the day of its existence, designs and
offers courses for the benefit of its large family to promote interdisciplinary studies in the
university also.

Evaluation and Grading System
JNU allows a semester system. Each course is for the duration of one semester and is
assigned a specific number of credits. MCA is a six semester programme where a
student has to secure 108 credits in all out of which 100 credits is for the course work
and 8 credits for the sixth semester project work.

The course work is carried out in the first five semesters where each student is required
to study five courses(Compulsory & Elective) in each semester. Each course of MCA
carries 4 credit points. On the other hand, MTech is a four semester programme where a
student has to secure 50 credits in all out of which atleast 30 credits shall be for
coursework, 5credits for seminar and 15 credits for the dissertation work. Each course of
MTech carries 3 credit points. The University follows a 9point letter grading scale for
evaluation of student’s academic performance in the course during the semester. The
grades in each course of the semester are used to compute the Semester Grade Point
Average(SGPA).The Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) is calculated for the student
upto and including the semester for which it is required using the SGPA.

On completing the programme the student is assigned a Final Grade Point Average
(FGPA) denoting the final index of a student in the courses. The objective of this system
is to provide a measure of the student performance in each course.

The performance of student is evaluated continuously throughout the semester. Besides

the end semester examination, the assessment is made in terms of his/her day-to-day
performance in the classroom, home assignment, minor tests, presentation and term.

Placement Cell
It’s high time when flotilla of student’s career take a golden course into the
vast ocean of software,R&D,and academic fields. As far as the placement is
concerned, when the whole world was struggling under the feet of parlous
state of economy, we did maintain an excellent graph of placement by our
labor and smarts. Our seniors did maintain it by striking the dirt and bagging
palmary and toothsome package, by their stellar performance. The alumni of
the school have fared well in all kinds of organizations whether it is the
system, application, product or service based.

The Training and Placement Cell of SC&SS provides the opportunity to the
students by interacting with the industries at various platforms, whether it is
on- job training,in- house projects or final placements of the students.

In order to carry out placement activities in the school, a placement

committee is constituted which comprises of a faculty member, acting as a
placement coordinator and representative from the student community of
the school. It is the devotion of the alumni in several organizations, the
faculty members and the students of the school that has brought SC&SS to
this excellent position among equals.
