The Palazzo Pianetti or Pianetti Tesei is a Rococo palace in the town of Jesi, Italy. Presently, it is owned by the town, and the palace and its adjacent building are used as a museum and exhibition site. The Palace as now seen, was built in 1730, based on designs of Cardolo Maria Pianetti. The elaborate interior decorations with stucco and paint depict a variety of subjects and cycles. They include frescoes on stories of the Aeneid by Placido Lazzarini, the second floor stanza was decorated by the Florentine Bandinelli. Cast your eyes, almost to the point of disorientation, along the 70-metres of the Galleria degli Stucchi. Take respite in the octagonal room that completes the optical illusion, be deceived by the many trompe loeil scattered throughout the other rooms. The adjacent building houses the civic picture gallery or Pinacoteca Civica. The most important works in the collection is a group of works by Lorenzo Lotto, completed 1512-1535 for the churches of S. Francesco al Monte and S. Floriano; these include the large altar-piece of the Deposition (1512); The Madonna of the Roses (1526), the three predellas of the

Anthony was born in Amandola in the Marche Region and, attracted by the reputation of Saint Nicholas of Tolentino, he entered the Augustinian Order and distinguished himself for his humility, spirit of obedience, and mortification, as well as his apostolic zeal. Around the year 1385 he was assigned to the monastery at Tolentino where he served as sacristan in the church of his beloved Saint Nicholas of Tolentino. In 1397 he went to southern Italy, possibly to undertake the preaching ministry. In 1400 he returned to Amandola where, through his initiative, the new Augustinian monastery with its adjoining church dedicated to Saint Augustine was constructed. After his death the church was renamed in Anthony's memory. Anthony has been venerated ever since his death at Amandola on 25 January 1450. It is recorded in the municipal acts of the city that, as early as 1460, the anniversary of his death was observed as a feast and not a work day. His incorrupt body is exposed for public veneration by the faithful in the church of Saint Augustine in Amandola. www.beatoantonio.it See it on Scoop.it, via Le Marche another Italy

What did the ancient Romans wear on their feet? Thats what Anna asked herself. Drawing on stimuli from the impressive Roman ruins of Urbs Salvia, she tried to find an answer taking into consideration the fact that the Romans covered far more ground on foot compared with most people these days. In order to walk such enormous distances, they had to have had very comfortable and hard-wearing shoes. The Lucina Calzature project was developed in order to offer a product which could best satisfy our millennia long desire for well-being and comfort. The realisation of the Lucina line of footwear has applied as philological an approach as possible in two main aspects: the basic material to be used, and the production technique to be followed. These questions were analysed on the basis of bibliographic knowledge of a historic and archaeological nature, and of noted information of literary and iconographic sources. The method of work followed, which may be defined as experimental archaeology, has allowed the production of goods which, although by form may be compared with the footwear of Roman times, they still respect modern day needs. San Severino Marche, where the 13th century is stillalive

April 2nd, 2012

I have rarely seen a more charming medieval place than San Severino Marche... Now, the lower part of town is very nice, with the eggshaped main square and the impressive buildings.. this place must have been quite powerful in the past. I read San Severino was always fighting with Camerino, the first being ghibellino and the latter a stronghold of the Vatican. However, I have to say, despite the great view in Camerino, San Severino is by far more beautiful. Instead of being a dark, religious mountain town like Camerino, San Severino is more bright, square. If Camerino reminded me of the 1500s or the Inquisition (maybe because there is a quite important provincial prison there.. in a former church), San Severino is more like the 1200s, the beginning of the end of Medieval time, the time of the first Universities, but also of crusades (amazing fresco on the theme in San Severino)... make sure to walk up to the tower and visit the amazingly beautiful Castello al Monte. Its basically a whole village hidden from the view, intact walls all around and a small vibrant community living in it. Quite impressive really. Once you made it on the top, where the monastery and the tower

rock face dates back milennia, and you can see the score marks on the rocks from the chiselling work of the stone cutters. There are several other smaller caverns in the area that likely served as quarries, but the largest of them is the only one that boasts a Romanesque church at its entrance. It's called the Gallo quarry, after a rooster that was thrown into a hole to try and find two lost monks - it (the rooster) eventually came out at a spring near Camerino, some 20km away. The monks? There's no account of what happened to them. Although not quite as old as the quarry, the church at the quarry's entrance dates back almost 1,000 years, and covered a far larger area than its crumbling remains now hold on to. At one time an important Benedictine abbey, St. Eustachio in Domora started out life in Lombard times as St. Michael, and over the centuries served as a guest house on this important connection road between San Severino (in the Potenza valley) and Camerino (in the Chienti valley). Inside the main structure with its large round eye for the rose window is a shrine of sorts in Gothic style, and underneath one can still see the cells which most likely served as living quarters. April 2nd, 2012

Under the city of Osimo (province of Ancona, Le Marche, Italy) there is an incredible dark second mate. An underworld which links the main buildings, expanding throughout the city in a maze This place, full of ancient alchemical symbolism, of which has not yet been given an explanation about its creation and on the respective function, was certainly sailed and lived by

The monumental Mole Vanvitelliana in the harbor of the Adriatic City of Ancona is the spectacular setting for a most original Leonardo exhibition. For the first time Leonardo's presence at Urbino and Pesaro as an architect and general engineer in the service of Cesare Borgia in 1502, is presented in a historical and cultural context that includes every aspect of Leonardo's art, science and technology, and of his philosophical outlook as well. At this time, Leonardo had to cope with the most demanding of tasks, without ever losing sight of the opportunity of drawing information and inspiration from local sources and traditions. He did this by roaming a countryside of breath-taking beauty all the way down to the Sibillini Mountains at the far South, the mysterious region of the sorceress Alcina, the legendary Sibyl. This is the focal point of the medieval novel Guerin Meschino, a book Leonardo owned together with L'Acerba by Cecco d'Ascoli, a contemporary of Dante, another of his literary and philosophical sources. Paintings and drawings by Leonardo and his school from private and public

Jesi and its secret ruralmuseum

April 2nd, 2012

In a small caf of Jesi, very oldfashioned, rustic, some would say even ugly.. if you go across the first room, you will find a real museum. A museum on how farmers lived in the early 20th century and even earlier. In fact, its not really a museum, its supposed to be a wine drinking place, but I rarely saw anybody in there. Its very dark, a bit abandoned.. but still, its an amazing thing to see. There you can check out agricultural tools, but also musical instruments, toys of all sorts, bycicles, wooden benches, etc. So the point of this post is to point out how rural life has a meaning in Marche, a region that lived almost exclusively on agriculture for several centuries up to the 50s. Jesi has secrets everywhere for you to find out as this little caf, where nobody would really enter unless they know whats hiding in there. The owners dont seem to have an idea of how precious that place is... Read the full article See it on Scoop.it, via Le Marche another Italy
