Book Month Activities


I. Pre-Elem: Description A continuation of daily reading activities in class using picture books specifically those written by Filipino authors Story-reading to be made a nightly activity and bonding moment of PreElem child and his/her parent As an art activity, the kids color the cover of popular novels Target Date Week of Nov. 14-18 Starting November 15 Week of Nov. 14-18 Materials Picture books from the ERC Letter to be given to parents Nov. 14 Photocopy of Book Cover (to be researched on the Internet) Letter to be given to parents Nov. 14

The parents buy 2 books, have them wrapped, to be given to the Principals Office. Books to be handed out at the culmination of the book month and during the December outreach activity. Weekly visit to the ERC

Elementary: Description Posting of trivia on books at the MultiPurpose Hall and Q&A during Monday and Friday assembly The homeroom teacher will submit a list of bookworms (serious readers inside the ERC and during SRA) Target Date Every week of November starting Nov.14 List to be submitted on Nov. 26. The grade 4 will interview teachers, staff and administrators about their favorite book or the book that changed their life or inspired them a great deal. Setting of Interview date is November 14. Pupils will be given a written spelling test (HR adviser may modify rules) Gr.1 & 2 pupils color the cover of popular Filipino novels Gr. 3 & 4 pupils make a new cover design for their favorite book Finals to be held at the multi-purpose hall. Elem kids will interpret a quotation about books and reading through a poster The essay should be in accordance with the National Book Month theme or the LSTA book month theme for 2011 or any of the following themes or topics:

Integration: a. CL: Bible Reading, Parables Reading of parables, Storytelling (parable), using parables to identify the different elements of a story and reading of the BIBLE (which, Br. Roly said, is the most special book of all) b. ART: book cover-making Drawing or copying a book cover, book-mark making, poster-making: quotation related to books or reading c. SCIENCE: Literature and Science connection Discussing stories with potential Science contents (zoology for animal stories, botany for legends involving plants, astronomy and geography for Greek and Roman mythology) d. MATH: Word problems/ERC book counting (Book Month Culmination) Solving word problems in Math using the library as the main scenario and books as one of the given facts. Guessing the total number of books in the ERC e. COMPUTER: Typing essays, quotation or reading lists using Microsoft Word. For higher levels, making a table about books or library resources using Microsoft Excel or making a book report or book critique using Microsoft PowerPoint

f. SIBIKA/HEKASI: Making a research on famous Philippine authors by region and foreign authors by country. Exploring the literature (panitikan) of a particular place g. FILIPINO: Familiarizing the pupils with Philippine literature such as folktale and legends. For higher grades, condensed versions or synopsis of Philippine epics and classics h. MUSIC: (Music time or free periods) Listening to original soundtracks of film versions of famous books i. PENMANSHIP: Writing the titles of books or famous quotation from story characters using the Palmers style of writing j. VALUES: Our very own core values in literary pieces (Home work) Finding a story that has for its main theme patriotism, integrity, excellence and service (and other values)
