REALITY 0F TBE WALKINu BEAB
People uo not like to talk about ueath. They go out of theii way to avoiu mentioning it. Shopping malls iaiely peimit funeial homes to ply theii tiaue in theii miust. Bespite the fact that the statistics tell us that ten out of ten people uie, eveiy one seeks to sail thiough life thinking about something else. We think anu live foi the now - not the inevitable futuie. All too many think like the iich foolish faimei in Luke 12 that they have many yeais aheau of them. The woilu has many uistiactions to keep oui minu of the unavoiuable enupoint of all, as the iich anu the pooi, young anu olu, stiong anu weak all meet in the giaveyaiu.
The Bible tells us that ieflecting on the tempoial natuie of life is goou foi us. Solomon instiucts, "2+# )&# 3"++"$# +%#(%# +%#+,"# ,%1&"# %4# 5%1$*)*(6# +,'*# +%# (%# +%# +,"# ,%1&"# %4# 4"'&+)*(7# 4%$# +,'+# )&# +,"# "*-# %4# '88# 5"*9# '*-# +,"# 8):)*(# ;)88# 8'.# )+# +%# ,)&# ,"'$+" (Eccl. 7:2). The Bible also ieminus us to face up to the fiagility of life, "+$18.#'&#+,"#<=>?#8):"+,6#'*-#'&#+,.#&%18#8):"+,6#+,"$"#)+#'#&+"0#3"+;""*#5"#'*-# -"'+," (1 Sam. 2u:Su). A step takes just a moment to pass. So is life. It can pass in a moment. The olu Anglican piayei book sums up this gieat tiuth well, "In life we aie in ueath."
The Bible also instiucts us that oui lives aie helu in the Banu of a Soveieign uou, "@.#+)5"&#'$"#)*#+,.#,'*-" (Psa. S1:1S). Inueeu, we leain that uou contiols oui veiy bieath, "2*#;,%&"#,'*-#)&#+,"#&%18#%4#":"$.#8):)*(#+,)*(6#'*-#+,"#3$"'+,#%4# '88# 5'*A)*-" (}ob 12:1u). The only thing that keeps us fiom eteinity is not oi wealth oi knowleuge but the soveieign will of uou. The woilu seeks to avoiu this tiuth anu emphasizes that we aie in contiol of oui uestiny. But this is just a self-imposeu blinuness that filteis out ieality. We aie all tiuly the walking ueau.

You see, uuiing the 0lu Testament time, little innocent lambs weie offeieu uaily in the temple foi the sins of the people. We touay aie in the lanu of the uying but when we cioss out into eteinity we entei the lanu of the living foi all eteinity. }ust a few uays befoie his ueath, Bi. F. B. The fact of the iesuiiection of oui beloveu Savioui has taken the sting out of ueath foi eveiy believei. The Psalmist uesciibes how Be comfoits us as we ";'8A#+,$%1(,#+,"# :'88".# %4#+,"# &,'-%;#%4# -"'+," (Psa 2S:4). The famous Bible teachei, Bonalu Bainhouse iecounts how he was comfoiteu by this fact when his wife uieu,

Because He Lives
1. God sent His Son, they called Him Jesus, He came to love, heal and forgive; He lived and died to buy my pardon, An empty tomb is there to prove My Saviour lives.
Chorus: Because He lives, I can face tomorrow, Because He lives, all fear is gone; Because I know He holds the future, And life is worth the living Just because He lives!
2. The Son of God, He paid my ransom, Went to the cross, my sins to bear. No greater love! His life He laid down; He died for me and thus forever set me free.
3. Now I serve Him, my Living Saviour; I walk with Him, from day to day. He leads me on the heavenly pathway; I know He keeps me in the shadow of His wings.
