COURSE DESCRIPTION:
This course is designed to introduce the concepts of sociology related to community and social institutions in India and its relationship with health
illness and nursing.
GENERAL OBJECTIVES: At the end of the course, the student will be able to:
1. Describe the importance of sociology in nursing.
2. Describe the interrelationship of individual in society and community.
3. Describe the influence of culture on health and disease.
4. Identify various social groups and their interaction.
5. Describe the growth of population in India and its impact on health.
6. Describe the institutions of family and marriage in India.
7. Describe the types of communities in India and the practices occurring in the India and their impact on the health of the individuals.
8. Describe the class and the caste system and their influence on health and various health practices occurring in India.
9. Explain the various changes occurring in the society which is a part of social change.
10. Describe the social system and inter relationship of social organizations.
11. Describe the role of nurse in dealing with the social problems occurring in India.

LEVELS OF COURSE PLANNING: -
• Pertains to organizing both content and learning experience within a unit or a subject i.e. at the level of course of study, at the level of unit.
• Deals with designing the patterns for the entire programme at the programme level.
