Bio Lab 12

The document outlines an experiment to investigate the impact of nitrogen deficiency on plant growth using two groups of seedlings, one with nitrogen fertilizer and one without. Over four weeks, measurements of plant height, leaf color, and number of leaves were recorded, showing that nitrogen-deficient plants exhibited stunted growth and yellowing leaves. The discussion questions prompt further exploration of nitrogen's role in plant health and agricultural practices.

Title:

The Effect of Nitrogen Deficiency on Plant Growth

Aim:

To observe how the lack of nitrogen affects the growth and health of plants.

Materials/Apparatus:

6 identical pots

Potting soil (sterilized)

Nitrogen fertilizer

Measuring cup

Ruler

Water

6 healthy seedlings (e.g., bean or tomato plants)

Labels

Method:

1. Label the pots into two groups:

Group A : 3 pots with soil + nitrogen

Group B : 3 pots with soil only (no nitrogen added)

2. Plant one seedling in each pot using the same amount of soil.

3. Add the same amount of water to each pot daily.

4. Add nitrogen fertilizer only to Group A at a fixed amount weekly.

5. Place all pots in the same location to receive sunlight.

6. Measure and record plant height, leaf color, and number of leaves once per week for 4
weeks.
