GUIDELINES AND PROCEDURES ON NSTP CULTURAL FEST 2012 GONZAGA GYMNASIUM SAINT LOUIS UNIVERSITY MARCH 11, 2012

Name:________________________Classcode:________ GroupNo____ Instructor:_________________ Saint Louis University National Service Training Program (SLU-NSTP) adheres to one of the major goals as embodied in the National Service Training Program Act of 2002 wherein it included promoting Nationalism and patriotism among students for good citizenship and passion for ones rich Filipino Culture, heritage, and traditions; 2. As compliance and as an act of sincere acknowledgment and appreciation of the different cultures of the Filipinos, SLU-NSTP submits that in order to promote Nationalism, it is imperative for every National to know his or her own identity. The identity of every individual is rooted on his/her culture. The culture from which he/she has grown up; 3. As culture defines ones identity, an individual could be considered competent in terms of knowing ones own culture when he/she knows her own culture. It is further submitted that respect to others identity would be fostered when there shall be proper appreciation to others cultures and traditions not only his/her own; 4. Moreover, as Lousian students imbued with a mission to transform and core values of Competence, Creativity, Christian Spirit, and Social Involvement; acknowledging and appreciating the different cultures from which every individual is affiliated is considered as a role of each and every Filipino. This activity would bring out the creativity of students as they will exercise their critical thinking on how to showcase the genuine cultures and/or traditions of the different ethnic affiliations on categories of foods, dances, songs and the cultural wears and/or accessories; nd 5. This activity shall be credited as the final examinations of NSTP 1 students for the 2 semester, SY 2011-2012; 6. The activity shall start at 9:00 am and shall end at 3:00 in the afternoon; 7. Call time shall be 7:30 in the morning; 8. Checking of attendance and orientation shall be at 7:30am; 9. What to bring: Each student must bring the following: a. Duly accomplished waiver and this guidelines; b. Ethnic wears or attires of the cultural affiliation you are assigned; c. Lunch box, spoons and forks, cup, and other kitchen utensils which to deem necessary for you to use in eating. No bringing of paper/styroplates, plastic/styrocups, plastic spoons and all non-environmental friendly items; d. Umbrella and extra clothings 10. All students must be in their respective assigned seats at exactly 8:55 am to be ready with the program at 9:00am. Thus, the following must be observed: a. Before 9:00 am, all the foods must have been prepared especially the table designed for judging purposes; b. no one should be staying inside their assigned classroom during the whole period of the event, except for those who are assigned to guard on the classroom (only 2 persons); c. no one should be practicing or fixing tables during the event; d. everyone must be in proper attire from the start of the program until the end. 11. All students must strictly observe the maximum time required for each presentation which is utmost eight (8) minutes which shall start upon entrance and ends upon exit; 1. 12. FOODS: a. There shall be tables assigned at G203-G206. These tables shall be for the purpose of displaying the foods of each class, properly designed for judging. Each class shall design their tables as labeled according to their classcode and cultural affiliation; b. Every dish must be labeled according to the name of the food (it must be named on the way the culture call such food) including the ingredients and procedure on how cook such food; c. There shall be at least 2 to 6 persons who must stay in each room to assist students in getting their foods; d. During lunch time, students shall get their food from the classrooms assigned to each code. e. To avoid clogging and/or stampede, students shall start roaming from G301 going right (G302-G302-G303-G304G308-G309-G310-G311-G312-G314-G315-G316-G213-G212-G209); f. After securing your foods, go back to your respective seats and have your lunch there; g. Should you want to take more foods, you may do so following the same route in order not to obstruct ways for other students who may be roaming also to get food; 13. DANCE, SONG AND FASHION SHOW a. No one is allowed to be preparing once the program starts. This means that you must be in your proper attire, as how you must be, in your presentations once you are in your seats; b. The sequence of performers shall be announced during the event. Thus, everyone must be ready at all times. The Masters of Ceremony shall then be announcing the one who will present and who will be the next in line. Once called as the on deck performers, you must move to your respective entrance designation so that no time shall be wasted; c. After your performance, go back immediately to your respective seats and pay attention to the next performers. 14. JUDGING a. There shall be external judges who will be evaluating the presentations of each class in all categories. 15. CRITERIA a. JUDGMENT

i. The judging shall be based in a single criterion TRIBALNESS. This pertains to the ability of the group to showcase the authenticity of the richness of the culture, heritage and traditions of the tribe the group is assigned to showcase. As assessed by the judges, a group is given a Gold, silver, bronze, or honorable mention performance evaluation. This is translated into a score that will form the class score as part of the exam. b. INSTRUCTORS SCORE i. The Supervising Instructor shall give points for each student depending on his/her performance as based on the following criteria: 1. Voluntary attendance for preparation and practices outside the regular class hours 2. Participation and cooperation during preparation and actual performance 3. Resourcefulness: contribution of ideas, concepts, talent, and other personal resources. 4. Creativity and the ability to trouble-shoot 5. Over all participation and performance including X-factor After the event, every class must be responsible in cleaning their respective area before leaving the premises. NSTP office staff shall be checking the rooms after the event. Areas which are not properly fixed and cleaned shall cause demerits for the whole class which used the particular facility. As personnel and students being groomed in our University, we are all required to observe and follow the policies, rules and regulations of the University as stated in the Student Handbook regarding a bonafide Louisian and his/her conduct and behavior. Let us all be reminded again that our participation in this activity is an opportunity for us to be our motto, wisdom builds, knowledge edifies our professional character and behavior. To ensure success of the activity and your safety, observe and follow additional regulations and instructions given by the Instructor before and/or during the activity. During the event, you are responsible for any act or untoward incident if the cause is: due to negligence on your part; viola tion of rules and regulations or instructions; or not covered by the period and supervision duties and responsibilities of the instructor. Read again your General Guidelines for NSTP 1 and follow the procedures and guidelines stated therein that apply to the said activity. By signing this guideline in the blanks provided, both the student and the guardian will not hold the University or its representatives, instructors and staff for any untoward incident that may happen to the student which is beyond the control of the University, its representatives, instructors or staff. The NSTP instructors and staff supervising the students will exert all their diligent efforts to ensure safety of students and the successful learning participation of students to the said activity.
