Figure of 8 knot: Provide foothold on the lifeline of the lifeboat davit and with the keel
grab line and prevent the rope from unreeving patent log with the log line.

Reef knot: It is used to the reef point which is used for shortening the sail.it is also used
to tie a bundle with the single rope. The reef knot is also used to join two ropes of equal
size.
Overhand knot: It is used for temporary whipping and preventing the rope unreeving
from the block and provides the foothold for the life line.

Sheep shank: Used for temporary shortening a rope or strengthening the damaged part
of the rope. It is also used for providing a hand grip on the keel grab lines.

2
Running bowline: It is used for making a running noose at the end of the rope.

Bowline on the bight: May be used in an emergency. It can be used to lower a man
over the ship side. Put the smaller bight under the arms and put the longer one under
the thighs.

3
Single sheet bend/double sheet bend: Used to join two rope of the same size and
also to be used to tying the sheets with the clew of a sail.

never jams.

weight to the end of a rope, to make the rope easier to throw.

7
Crown Knot:A crown knot is a knot tied to the end of a rope that is double the diameter
of the main rope. A crown knot is best used as a handle for something like the long end
of a rope halter, but not for rope that is needed to be threaded in tighter spaces.

8
Bowline: Bowline knots are used by climbers to attach themselves to their harnesses and

to anchor the other end to something heavy.

Monkey Fist: The monkey's fist knot is most often used as the weight in a heaving line.

9
Draw Hitch: It is a quick-release draw hitch used for temporarily securing a load that will need to
be released easily and cleanly.

Wall Knot:To tie of the end of a rope so that it does not unlay.

10
Fisherman Knot: The fisherman’s knot is a bend that joins two ropes and is most
commonly used for fishing. They are easy to tie and good for wet conditions, but they
don’t work well with lines made from slippery materials.
