goats. Jared rolled in the hay as Ellie and some of the others rolled in the hay with him. Laughter and giggles could be heard the whole time. I said to the couple, Hes a country boy through and through. They agreed whole heartedly. While the hay pile was the main attraction that day, usually the goats can be seen climbing on a large tire placed in the pasture. Jordan said the tire is filled with bug dust. According to Jordan, having such a feature in the pasture conditions the goats and entertains them as well. They like to climb around and be as high as they can get, he said. Over the past couple of years, the Seebachs have built their herd to total 46 goats with nearly 40 kids born every year. It is amazing to think that such a short time ago, their farm didnt even exist. Those who doubt the future of farming would do well to see the enthusiasm held by this local couple and their young son.

Adriane said her favorite goat is Sneak-a-Peek. Sneak-a-Peek is shown above. She is a rare polka-dotted boer goat. Her unique color pattern makes her more valuable. The Seebachs have two goats with such a color pattern. Boer goats can sell for tens of thousands of dollars if they have the right pedigree and a history of placing in shows. The ultimate goal for a boer goat is to become ennobled. Ennoblement adds incredible value to a goat because it means its top quality. Adriane said the couple has no such goats.

The Future For Farming Looks Bright

Its no secret that Americas society is becoming an increasingly urban society. Over the past few decades, people have left Monroe County and other such communities in droves for the big cities. We have seen many people give up farming over that same time period. However, the Moores and the Seebachs have many things in common that point towards a bright future for farming in Monroe County. First, and most obviously, both couples are young. You know some-

thing is going to last when the younger generations become involved. Secondly, both couples built their farms out of nearly nothing. They knew they wanted to farm, and they built what they needed using the land they had. Finally, the Moores and the Seebachs have the most necessary component for a bright future: enthusiasm. It was evident in talking to both young couples that farming was in their blood. That tells me one thing: The farm life will live on!

Jared, pictured in the foreground, with his dad Jordan, is a vastly fortunate kid. Growing up on a farm is a great opportunity few children get. Jared loves playing with the goats. Hes pictured here during a moment of calm, but moments before he was rolling in the pile of hay with two goats. Jordan and Adriane werent uptight about Jared getting dirty as many parents would be. They know hes a farm boy and will be healthier for all the outdoors activity. When I arrived to do the article, Jordan and Jared were on the riding lawnmower with their matching Seebach Hidden Acres shirts and their John Deere hats. Adriane said Jared is at his happiest when spending time on the farm.
