Weeders for Wetland
and Garden land
WHY WEEDERS ?
“ On digging deeper, I realized that the labour wages growth rate have tripled over the last 10 years
causing labour costs to jump multifold for the farmer, while the farm incomes haven't risen commensurately ”

“Our customers are surprised to find that not only do our weeders reduce the time taken for weeding,
they also reduce the frequency of weeding” says executives
1)Effective Field capacity
* It is the machines ability to do a job in a field conditions.
* It includes the time for turning in headlands, blade cleaning time when weeds clogged to the blade.
* It is expressed in hectare per hour (ha h-1)
* Effective field capacity is computed by using the formula (Keshavalu et al., 2017)
EFC = A / T
EFC – Effective field capacity (ha/hr)
A – Area covered (ha)
T – Time taken to cover the area (h)

2)Weeding efficiency
* It is the ratio between the number of weeds removed by the weeder to the number of weeds present
before weeding
* It is expressed in Percentage (%)
* Weeding efficiency is computed by using the formula (Sabaji et al., 2014)
WE = ((W1 – W2) / W1) x 100
WE - Weeding efficiency (%)
W1 - Number of weeds present before weeding
W2 - Number of weeds present after weeding

3)Plant Damage Efficiency

*It is the ratio between the number of plants damaged by the weeder to the number of plants
before weeding process
*It is expressed in percentage (%)
*Plant damage is computed by using the formula (Sabaji et al., 2014)
PD = (P1 – P2) / P1 x 100
PD - Plant damage (%)
P1 - Number of plants in 1m2 plot
P2 - Number of plants damaged after weeding

4)Fuel Consumption
* It is the quantity of fuel refilled in the tank after a period of time
* It is expressed in litres per hour (l h-1 )
* Fuel consumption is computed by using the formula (Keshavalu et al., 2017)
FC = Q / T
FC - Fuel consumption (l h-1)
Q - Quantity of fuel refilled in the tank (l)
T - Total running time of an engine (h)

5)Performance index
* It is the measure of machine performance how good the machine is adapted to a specific field
condition with respect to power input.
* It is expressed in hectare per hp
* .Performance index was computed by using the formula (Sabaji et al., 2014)

PI = (EFC x (100 – PD) x WE) / P

PI - Performance index (ha hp-1 )
EFC -Effective field capacity (%)
PD - Plant damage (%)
WE -Weeding efficiency (%)
P -Power required to operate the weeder (hp)

CULTIVATORS ROTARY TILLERS

1)ELECTRIC WEEDERS
* These are lightweight and easy to handle tools powered by electricity.
* They typically have rotating blades or strings that cut through the
weeds when activated.
* Electric weeders are suitable for smaller garden plots and areas with
easy access to a power source
2)BATTERY-POWERED WEEDERS
* Battery-powered weeders run on rechargeable batteries
*They offer greater mobility as they do not require a constant power connection,
making them suitable for larger gardens or areas without easy access to electrical outlets

3)GAS-POWERED WEEDERS
* These weeders are more robust and powerful, running on gasoline engines
* They are suitable for larger garden lands or areas where electricity or
battery charging may be inconvenient
* They tend to be noisier and require regular maintenance.
4) ROTARY TILLERS
*These machines can break up the soil and remove weeds
simultaneously, making them efficient tools for larger garden lands

5)CULTIVATORS

* Garden cultivators are machines that help prepare the soil for planting
and also aid in weed removal
* They usually have rotating blades or tines that dig into the soil,
uprooting weeds in the process

6)FLAME WEEDERS
*Flame weeders utilize controlled flames to burn off weeds
*They are especially useful for eliminating weeds from pathways,
driveways, and other hard surfaces
7) STEAM WEEDERS
* These weeders use high-temperature steam to kill weeds
* They are an eco-friendly alternative to chemical herbicides
and are particularly useful for organic gardening.

Before choosing a power-operated weeder, consider the size of your garden land, the types of
weeds you need to tackle, and your preferred method of power
