Identify your best strategy (ies) and provide a rationale of why you selected the strategy (ies) discussed in your group.

Since there are many strategies that can be used in order to solve the behavioural problem, the most I think as the best strategy is Logical Consequences Model by Dreikurs. The reasons why I chose Dreikurs model instead others are by the principles itself and also by eliminating the other models based on the behaviour problem. An example can be seen when, Madam Rose who had already implemented a comprehensive behaviour management plan for her classroom. However, it was not enough until she learnt from a friend of her about some specific behavioural interventions as well as the acting-out cycle of behaviour. Applying this knowledge allowed Mdm. Rose to address the problem behaviours of the students. This shows that Kounins Model of ripple effect does not affect the problem students until new way is being used. In this case, the first thing a teacher must do is analyse the case and see where the problem lies. This is because if attention is given in response to students misbehaviour, the misbehaviour may increase. If based on the problems Joey did in the class, the highest probability based on Dreikurs Model is, Joey is seeking attention. So, Madam Rose should try some test by giving Joey a special task to see whether his problem lies there or not. Besides that, she should create a situation where students may find legitimate ways to satisfy their need for attention (Balson, 1992). A warm, safe, and caring environment allows students to influence the nature of the activities they undertake, engage seriously in their study, regulate their behavior, and know of the explicit criteria and high expectations of what they are to achieve (Queensland Department of Education, 2005). Therefore, teacher should create a conducive environment whereas students would get comfortable and concentrate in the class more, leaving inappropriate behaviour problems. The next thing to be aware is avoid open confrontation because applying pressure usually leads to a power contest between the student and the teacher. They might get rebel and do something dangerous to himself or others when the

level of impatience cannot be hold anymore. That is why a teacher must be composed and deal with the problem in a trusting and caring way. Try to make the student understand his motive of doing the inappropriate behaviours, and help him explore why he behaved in that way. Show or tell the consequences of the inappropriate behaviour if it is being continued. Sometimes, students do not think much of the consequences of what they did, and that most probably can get some other people get troubled and irritate. When we look at his behaviour, he did many things such as makes disruptive comments when Mdm. Rose calls on him in class. At other times, he makes fun of his fellow students' responses. Though many of her students laugh at Joey's antics, Mdm. Rose suspects that some of them feel embarrassed when he ridicules their answers. Therefore, Madam Rose should investigate and get the answers for any question that will be asked. It is an important aspect for the teacher to be very cautious in handling such cases. One must have to realise the students reason of hurting others are because they were hurt once. Thats why having a private communication is a compulsory when it comes to talk about heart-to-heart. Sometimes, students like Joey cannot concentrate in class because he felt uninterested towards what shes teaching in class. He cannot appreciate the teachers effort and this shows rebellious and he cannot synchronise with her teaching anymore. So, get to understand them and assist the student concerned in a caring manner. Try making him realise his mistaken goal and help him use his energy in a productive way. For example, Madam Rose can put him in a contest that will highlight him as he can do his best in his interest. By doing this way, Joey might probably appreciate Madam Rose more and be concentrate her as he admired and appreciate her effort before. Last but not least, teacher must ensure other students to not isolate him or retaliate, because this will put a pressure to him when the environment does not accepting him. Let the others support Joey, not want to get revenge to him.
