From The Director's Desk

“IGIDR is an advanced teaching and research institute. It offers M.Sc.

(Econ.), M.Phil and PhD degrees and provides professional training in most
branches of economics from a multidisciplinary perspective. The teaching
programme has cutting edge curricula and accomplished faculty. It has a
vibrant student body which is diverse in the academic background as well
as national character. Its teaching programme is unique in terms of
research assistantships which give opportunity for students to assist the
faculty in research projects. In these projects, they handle large data sets,
use advanced quantitative techniques and learn how to interpret the
results. Quantitative techniques, analytical insights and field experience
are all blended in the research projects as well as in various courses
offered. No wonder then that our graduates develop wide-ranging
expertise on several broad fronts. Our students have got jobs in reputed
corporate firms, banks, research institutes, universities and NGOs. It
reflects the quality of teaching and research at IGIDR.”

S. Mahendra Dev
From The Dean’s Desk

“IGIDR is a leading emerging institute that offers post-graduate

programme in Economics and Development Studies of international
standard. Its graduate program emphasizes analytical understanding,
quantitative approach and contemporary policy relevant
applications. It equips the student with tools and methods that
enables them to undertake studies of macro-economic problems,
sector or industry specific issues and microeconomic behaviour. The
hallmark of the programme is the diversity of student background,
accomplished faculty and continuously updated academic
curriculum. Support systems in terms of modern library, latest
econometric software and computational facilities further strengthen
this. The student gets hands on experience with data related to
national and international macroeconomics-finance, household and
corporate-firm-level data on a variety of dimensions. Exposure to the
ideas of national and international scholars of repute who regularly
visit IGIDR to present seminars is a distinct advantage. Access to
alumni in domestic and global corporations of repute provides
network and learning benefits. I am highly confident that IGIDR
students get the learning opportunities that prepare them to take up
challenging jobs in different organizations.”

K. V. Ramaswamy
From The Desk Of Dean Students'
Welfare

“Over the years IGIDR has acquired a very high reputation for its M.Sc.,
M.Phil, and PhD programmes and for producing graduates with
excellent analytical and empirical skills from a multi-disciplinary
perspective. The students are exposed to the modern methods of
economic analysis and trained in sophisticated computational skills
during the programme under the guidance of highly accomplished
faculty members. Our course curricula are updated regularly and very
low student-teacher ratio ensures that the students receive personal
attention from the teachers. Students' evaluation is based on a number
of criteria including classroom participation, term papers, assignments
and regular examinations, and our faculty use the feedback from the
students for continuous upgrading and refinement of their teaching
methods. The students are encouraged to participate in seminars and
workshops that are regularly conducted at the institute and also to
present their work at national and international seminars and
conferences. Our students also benefit from an excellent network of
alumni in the corporate sector and in research and academic institutes”

Vijay Laxmi Pandey

From The Desk Of Registrar

“Since its foundation in 1987, IGIDR has been committed to excellence in

teaching and research. It is an advanced research institute established by the
Reserve Bank of India for carrying out research on development issues from
a multi-disciplinary point of view. Along with the highly qualified and
respected faculty, the infrastructural offerings of IGIDR are one of the best in
India. We have provided the students with a state of the art library and
computer centre, and have also provided them with options for recreation
which include a badminton court, swimming pool, basketball court, tennis
court, etc. We offer not only a chance to excel academically, but a chance for
overall development of the student.”

Placement Process

PLACEMENT CELL
The Placement Committee, a student body at IGIDR, working in tandem with the faculty placement
committee, provides a platform for students seeking recruitments. Since its inception in 2004, the
Placement Cell has successfully maintained a 100% placement record.
The Placement Committee also monitors the Summer Internship Program (May-July) for the 1st Year
M.Sc students.
The Placement Committee cordially invites corporate firms, banks, research organizations, government
institutions and non-government institutions to recruit at IGIDR.

FINAL RECRUITMENT
The Second Year students from the M.Sc and M.Phil streams sit for final placements during the
placement week. The Final Placement Week for this academic year is tentatively scheduled from 12th to
th
16 December 2011. The placement process typically involves a Pre-Placement Talk in October/
November followed by a visit by the company during Placement Week for recruitment.
During the Pre-Placement Talk, companies are required to indicate the profiles and kind of
compensation they will be offering, and the locations they are recruiting at. Companies give Pre
Placement Talks to the students on campus before the final placement process.
The slot that the company will be allocated during the Placement Week will depend
upon the preference of the students and the relationship that the company shares with IGIDR.

SUMMER INTERNSHIP PROGRAMS

In addition to final placements, companies and research organizations also hire first year M.Sc students
for summer internships.
Interviews for summer interns also take place alongside final placements during the placement week.
The rounds in the summer internship process are similar to the final placement process. However,
companies are free to tailor it as they deem fit.
