Boston Tea Party

For my website project, I selected the Boston Tea Party as a topic. One of the most interesting points of history was the birth of the American nation, of course, after gaining independence from Britain. The Tea Party was among the key factors to Americas birth, plus the event itself, in which tea was dumped as protest, is fascinating. At the beginning of my research journey, I found it best to simply wrap my head around the fundamentals of my topic. I went to the library and took a book called How The Boston Tea Party Sparked A Revolution. In addition, I went to the Gale American History database and found some primary sources that contained first-hand descriptions of the events. The goal was to collect some basic evidence for the entire argument and have a solid understanding of the Boston Tea Party. However, an issue came up with one of the primary sources. After reading it and trying to digest it, it ended up being too difficult to understand. The words and style of language written by the author of the primary source, Ann Hulton, from back a few centuries ago, was too fancy and hard to read. I ended up substituting this primary source with a more easy-to-understand primary source. I tried to find some scholarly journals afterwards. The purpose of these was to narrow my topic down into the economics aspect. After searching, I didnt find any. I ended up finding a brief one, but it didnt fulfill my goal. I then found some other strong sources, including one that gave a general description, one that was from a newspaper, and one that was a letter. These were wonderful, but to achieve my goal of learning about the economics, I turned to the book that was my first original source. This source is the most-detailed on the topic. In fact, it is probably my best source. The sources that I had recently found would be better suited to supplement this source. I started to sculpt my argument afterwards. I made the decision to work alone on this project for the sake of organization, time and stress. This is a long, complicated project with many components and tasks. Working with someone else would be complete havoc trying to communicate with him or her and split responsibilities fairly. Handling these things on my own is simpler to do. The Boston Tea Party was an illustration of a lose-lose situation caused by the mercantilist theory. England, on one hand, is trying to impose taxes on the colonies, as well as other controlling demands, despite that the colonies are an ocean away. The colonies, on the other hand, fail at boycotting, since they destroy and waste valuable tea that they drink. In addition, the colonies ought to have taxed their own products, instead of foreign products. In other words, taxation without representation is important. Also, the Boston
Tea Party came to symbolize the forming of the American nation by breaking from tyrannic Britain.
