On behalf of the University Honors College, we are pleased to provide you with the application for a University at Buffalo Presidential Scholarship. The Presidential Scholarship is a highly competitive and prestigious award, which covers the cost of an undergraduate education at the University at Buffalo, including tuition, fees, housing, board and a book stipend. Our Presidential Scholars represent the top 1% of students in the nation. They are students who are intellectually curious and are invested in their educational experience. Additionally, we look to Presidential Scholars to be actively involved in our Honors community and the University at large. Presidential Scholars are integral members of the University Honors College community, where students are offered enhanced educational opportunities suited to their talents as well as assistance in creating unique educational experiences that meet their goals. Honors students benefit from personalized academic advising, the option to live in the Honors Living Community in Governors Residence Hall and priority registration. The Honors College curriculum allows students to enroll in small seminars during their first year, where they can make meaningful connections with UBs most accomplished faculty members. Additionally, the Honors College has recently moved into a newly renovated and expanded space that includes a student lounge, formal conference room and state-of-the art classrooms. Presidential Scholars also have the ability to apply to the UB School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences Guaranteed Acceptance Program. Students who have a strong inclination toward a medical career will be invited to apply to the program by the School of Medicine and may be eligible for guaranteed admission to UBs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences when they are initially accepted to UB. To be considered competitive for a Presidential Scholarship, students must show outstanding academic merit with a minimum unweighted high school average of 95 and a combined critical reading and math score of at least 1470 or an ACT score of 33. Additionally, your general application for admission to the University at Buffalo must be on file and complete (including all supplemental materials) by December 31st. All application materials for the Presidential Scholarship are due electronically to the University at Buffalo Honors College office by Friday, January 6, 2012 at 5:00pm EST. As part of the application process, you may be contacted for an interview. To help maximize our institutional resources, we also require that all applicants for this award file the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by March 1, 2012. Scholarship decisions will be made and award letters will be sent beginning in mid-February. Students who receive a Presidential Scholarship are automatically admitted to the Honors College and must maintain good standing within the program to keep their scholarship. Should you have any questions concerning the University Honors College or this scholarship, please contact us directly. Additionally, we would be happy to meet with you and your family in person where you would have the opportunity to meet the Honors staff and enjoy a personalized tour of campus.
