Why did Pyramid Plus Center create a new training?

Pyramid Plus Approach Training Curriculum was developed in order to meet the needs of the Centers goal. The goal of the Pyramid Plus Center is to promote the social and emotional development and inclusion of all children, birth through five, through a collaborative professional development system that fosters and sustains the state-wide, high-fidelity use of the Pyramid Model, SpecialQuest approach, and other related evidencedbased practices integrated with relevant Colorado efforts.

How is this training different from the Pyramid Model Training that I have already received?
The Pyramid Plus Approach Trainings framework and content base is the Pyramid Model. The Center combined Pyramid Model Infant/Toddler and Preschool Modules into one cohesive training, providing information and strategies for the developmental continuum (birth to five years). In addition to this change Pyramid Plus embedded evidence based inclusion practices in to the training as well. These practices include SpecialQuest, Building Blocks, LEAP (Learning Experiences and Alternative Programs for Preschoolers and Their Parents), and PTR (Prevent Teach Reinforce). The examples in the training include a variety of learning environments including center/program, home and community, whereas the Pyramid Model examples are primarily center based. The Pyramid Plus Approach Training includes 18 sessions opposed to 5 modules that require a full day of training for each. The breakdown in training sessions was a result from the annual Pyramid Plus Community Training Needs Survey which indicated that individuals prefer half day trainings opposed to full day.

Can I use the Pyramid Plus Approach Training toward my professional development?
Individuals who have completed the full course (all 18 sessions) of the Pyramid Plus Approach training and who obtain documentation of the full course of training from a Pyramid Plus staff or Certified Trainer, will be considered to have met the educational requirements for Early Childhood Guidance Strategies (ECE 103) in accordance with Division of Child Care rules regulating child care centers and family home licenses. Continue Education Units (CEUs) and Continuing Education Course Credits through the University of Colorado at Denver (UCD) are offered at trainings hosted by the Pyramid Plus Center (for an additional cost). Currently the Center is working with UCD the process of creating college credit courses for Pyramid Plus Approach training, coach certification and trainer certification.
