I love music that takes me beyond my "self" and somehow gives me "wings to fly" spiritually.
Despite the madness that this world seems to display increasingly day by day, music by the artists I have mentioned (and many more for sure) somehow can elevate the human spirit in some magical and mystical way. Their music gives us hope that there is within humanity, a divine goodness (our spirit/ a divine spirit) that will ultimately rise up and shine forth as a light so strong that it will dispel the darkness that seems so prevalent today. When I hear Josh Groban sing You Raise Me Up, when I hear Vanessa Williams sing Colors of the Wind or Andrea Bocelli and Sarah Brightman sing Time To Say Goodbye, or Il Divo and Celine Dion sing I Believe In You, somehow a little bit more of that divine goodness and light within me seems to come to life. When a mobile car phone salesman named Paul Potts stepped to the microphone on a TV show in Britain and began to sing opera and so enthralled the audience that they rose and gave him a standing ovation, I do not mind admitting that my eyes got a little watery. It was, to me, a divine moment.
"Wings to Fly" are words in a song Celine Dion sings called "I'm Alive" and they are also words in a song Josh Groban sings called "Believe," which is part of the soundtrack in the movie, The Polar Express. "I'm Alive" is a song about how much one person can impact another and make us glad to be alive. In one part Celine sings "When you call on me, When I hear you breathe, I get wings to fly, I feel that Im alive." Later she sings "I couldnt get much higher, My spirit takes flight 'cause I am alive" and at the end the words are "God knows I'm alive." In "Believe" Josh Groban sings, "Believe in what your heart is saying, Hear the melody that's playing, There's no time to waste, There's so much to celebrate, Believe in what you feel inside, And give your dreams the wings to fly, You have everything you need, If you just believe." Somewhere deep down in my heart/spirit I know that God's passion for all of humanity is that we truly experience life where we are so fully alive it is truly divine. What I also sense is that God wants us to experience Him/ Her and that experience often occurs as the divine in each of us touches the divine in others. It is truly a "namaste" experience. Joy, happiness and peace occur when we connect the divine within us with the divine in others.
