A Note On Why I Want To Work With HUSK POWER SYSTEMSHusk Power Systems aims at providing electicity to the rural households of Bihar. It is a fast growing off-grid electricity company. The initiative has integrated various old ideas and executed them proficiently, thus succeeding in the objective. Resident of a small town of Bihar, I am sympathetic to the difficult situations arising due to scarcity of electricity supply. With 85% of the population of Bihar still not connected to the main grid, the opportunity for the expansion of Husk Power business model is tremendous. I want to be part of this company that has illustrated a radically different way to think about innovation, and contribute in tackling the global problem that stems from poor peoples lack of access to energy. I see this as an opportunity to use my technical skills in making a contribution towards this cause. The valuable experience that I will get will provide me with a better understanding of Power Generation process and applying technology to the local constraints and developing an efficient system with the locally available resources. The system of generation of electricity from rice-husks in itself is very simple and even a person who cannot read or write can operate it with some basic training. Husk Power has a strong emphasis on investment in R&D and makes strategic partnerships to design simple equipments and keep costs low. Husk Power has also addressed the persistent misconception that people at the bottom of the pyramid are not willing to pay for electricity. It has shown that the consumers are not only willing but desperately able to pay for this service. The value addition by Husk Power Systems to the entire region is immense. The company channels most of its payments and and wages directly back into the village it serves. The minimal cost at which households receive power from Husk, saves them at least 35% in costs by replacing kerosene lanterns or diesel genset-based lighting. My area of interest is Power Systems Design and Analysis . I have worked as an intern in NTPC, Vindhyanagar in 2011 and have a prior experience of the working of the Power Generation and Distribution Systems. Some of the other important areas covered by me are Transformers, Synchronous, Induction and D.C. machines. I have worked on a project on Prevention of Electricity Theft. It has been a national problem of India resulting in huge financial losses. Husk Power model keeps such losses down to 5% as compared to an average of 30%. I wish to work in this particular field and come up with a viable technological solution. I have a penchant for serving social sector which has been a hallmark of Husk Power Systems. I have worked as an intern in a social organization MKSS in Rajasthan. The experience I had there has made me aware about the needs of rural India much better. I hope to use that experience in this company which works as comprehensive model of social enterprise providing access to reliable, eco-friendly and affordable source of electricity alongside earning profit.
