What does the idiomatic phrase given our best lights mean?

Despite our uncertainty, heres our best guess. Some big questions in life have no readily definitive answers, so the most we can do is venture our best guess. The choice is: Should we try--or should we just stop asking those questions?

Best Lights

What does the idiomatic phrase to leave no stones unturned mean?

"To look everywhere to find something, or to try everything to achieve something." Some big questions: Is there a God? Who is He? What does my life mean?

Turning Stones

Are you willing to leave no stone unturned in your search for God and for meaning?

Theres a story about a man who refused to look for his lost keys in the dark because theres not enough light.
A lot of things in our lives are like keys lost in the dark. We cant see them clearly, but it doesnt mean theyre not there. Are we going to fold our arms across our chest and not even try to find them,or are we going to grope in the dark because if were lucky, we just find locate those missing keys? Some of our biggest questions-especially questions about God-have some kind of answers. Theyre just not so obvious.
