A Melody of Life

Characters:

Quintus – a person who was once joyful but when faced with tragedies he starts to float in
despair and loses the ability to hope but then later on found comfort in music which puts his life
back on track.

His friends – weren’t a phone call away, even if they knew what Quintus is going through, they
just ignored him which has a big impact on Quintus’ feelings.

Parents – We can see how the both parent can't handle the situation. We can see that their
family is drowning because his parents are letting the problem to cost them too much.

Setting/s:

From the very beginning of the story we can predict that he can have a great life but as the story
goes on, we saw that it didn’t happen. And the story just had the school and their home as the
setting, which we can see that a person who has a depression really do. This story happened
during in present time.

Problem and Solution:

Quintus grew up with parents ignoring him. He wasn’t close to them. At a very young age,
Quintus suffered from witnessing all the quarrel between his parents that made him get
intimidated and scared of their presence. For a kid like him, he should be enjoying his childhood
but because of his protective and abusive parents, he couldn’t. He only stayed at home. Making
friends was so hard for him, but thank God, he still has friends in school; but not until at the
lowest point of his life. Because of his family problems and because of getting bullied in the
class as being weirdo, he became depressed. He told it to his classmates whom he considered
as his true friends but they only laughed at him. From then, he tried to keep things only to
himself. And music… started being his companion in everything. Music became his strength,
comfort, habit. He found a friend in music. He writes and listens to music when he’s sad, happy,
or not feeling anything at all.

Story Summary:

Quintus was born from a family of musician. His mother was a performer while his father is a
pianist. However, he didn't enjoyed his childhood like the other kids around the block. Because
his parents argue a lot, while Quintus heard everything they said. He learned the piano by
himself making it as his only friend in his childhood. Quintus was an introvert, he has friends but
he rather chose to be with himself. And then one day, depression suddenly attacked him. But by
the power of music, it gave him strength and comfort. He found peace leaving the reality of his
life. He started to compose for the world to hear, to fight against darkness of reality

Script:

Quintus: When the days are cold

And the cards all fold

And the saints we see

Are all made of gold

When your dreams all fail

And the ones we hail

Are the worst of all

And the blood’s run stale

I want to hide the truth

I want to shelter you

But with the beast inside

There’s nowhere we can hide

No matter what we breed

We still are made of greed

This is my kingdom come

This is my kingdom come

Friends: Oh Quintus, Quintus. What are you talking about, my dear? Depression? What is
that?! Something that can be eaten? *laughs*
Quintus: It’s true, it’s true what I am telling you. Why no one believes in me?

Friends: Oh dear, oh dear. No more lies, oh please. *laughs*

Quintus: Fine. Leave me alone. I won’t need you no more!!

Friend #1: Don’t mind him, guys. Loser.

/Umuwi si Quintus sa bahay nila/

Quintus’ mother: How could you do this to your family?! Who is that woman that I saw?!
Leave.

Quintus’ father: Darling, let me expl-

Quintus’ Mother: I said leave!!!!

/tatakbo ang bida sa kwarto/

/iiyak ng onti/

Quintus: Greet me oh bitter end

My time has come to die

No tears left to cry

It’s time to say goodbye.

/nakita yung violin/

/kinuha yung violin/

/pinatugtog ang violin/

Quintus: Or maybe, it’s still not the end.
