discussing with his psychic.
A frog telephones the Psychic Hotline and is
told, "You are going to meet a beautiful young
girl who will want to know everything about
you."
The frog says, "This is great! Will I meet her at
a party, or what?"
"No," says the psychic. "Next semester in her
biology class."
A good chess player
A man went to visit a friend and was amazed
to find him playing chess with his dog. He
watched the game in astonishment for a while.
"I can hardly believe my eyes!" he exclaimed.
"That's the smartest dog I've ever seen."
"Nah, he's not so smart," the friend replied.
"I' ve beaten him three games out of five."

Situation in Gujarat Worse
Than Emergency Days: Keshubhai
Surekha Narvankar
In a fresh salvo at Gujarat Chief Minister
Narendra Modi, veteran BJP leader Keshubhai
Patel today said the situation in the state has
become "worse" than the Emergency era.
Patel, who was chief minister of Gujarat before
being replaced by Modi in 2001, has been
targeting the BJP stalwart in the run-up to the
state elections scheduled in December.
The 82-year-old chose the 37th anniversary of
the imposition of Emergency to slam Modi and
his style of functioning.
"Today is the 37th anniversary of imposition of
Emergency in the country. On this day, I would
like to remind people what is the position in
Gujarat," Patel said in his maiden blog.
"Some parents of missing children of Gujarat
wanted to represent their case to the chief
minister. However, they were detained by the
police and interrogated," Patel wrote.
"Those who do not have any political affiliation
and want to put forward their point of view
cannot meet the chief minister of the state...
What kind of fortification is this," he asked.
"Why does the chief minister fear the people of
the state?... Is this not worse then emergency
days," he questioned.
"Why does the chief minister fear the people of
the state?... Is this not worse then emergency
days," he questioned.
Patel was referring to yesterday's police action
to stop the rally of 'Association of Parents of
Missing Children' and detained the members
saying they had organised the procession
without proper permission.
"I have been raising the issue that there is no
freedom of expression in Gujarat and this
incident has once again proved my words,"
Patel said.
The Modi-baiter has taken up the social media
in an apparent bid to reach out to youths in his
campaign against Modi, sources close to Patel
said.

Bangladesh, Burma and
Pakistan Military and politics
Manjoor-ul-Islam
All three south Asian countries are directly or
i ndi r ect l y ar e bei ng r ul ed by mi l i t ar y
dictatorship. In south asia, people are poor.
People are starving. They dont care who rules
them, they want food and shelter, and i f
possible health care perhaps. You have seen
in the media, how ruthless leader of Burma,
General Than Shwe brutally suppressed the
peoples movement for democracy led by the
Buddhi st monks. Resul t i s, accordi ng to
foreign diplomats, more than 200 killed. China
said, it is Burmas internal matter. When 200
peopl e di e because of pl anned mi l i t ary
brutality, it is not an internal matter anymore.
Its gross violation of human rights.
In Pakistan, General Parvez Musharraf, is no
better. Popularized by USA for "war on terror",
he is in a very critical stage of his political
carrier. All military dictators take advantage of
the volatile political situation and come to
power as a hero. But later, reality sets in and
hero becomes afraid of losing power and starts
massive corruption in fear of losing power.
Now lets discuss Bangladesh. Army took over
power in Jan 11th, 2007, taking advantage of
the volatile political situation. I would blame
our politicians for current situation. (Thats a
different story which I will not discuss here).
Army is controlling civil administration. Junior
army officers are being appointed in many
government sectors. Army is trying to control
the economy (rather they are destroying it),
trying to control the law and order (polices job)
.Now if you think about it, what is the purpose
of an Army? If I understand i t right, i t i s
national defense. They are very involved in
i nt ernal pol i t i cal aff ai r. For the sake of
argument lets ask, are they doing a good job?
I wi l l l eave t hi s up t o your j udgment .

Pervaiz Ashraf, New
Prime Minister of Pakistan
ISLAMABAD: Raja Pervaiz Ashraf was elected
the country's 25th Prime Minister on Friday
after securing 211 votes. He had originally
been i nt ended t o be a mer e cover i ng
candidate for Makhdoom Shahabuddin but his
fortunes turned when Makhdoom had to bow
out due to the registration of a criminal case
against him by the Anti Narcotics Force.
Soon after his election as the prime minister of
Pakistan, Raja Pervaiz Ashraf pledged to
follow in the footsteps of his predecessor
Yusuf Raza Gilani, who was disqualified by the
Supreme Court, and promised to hold free, fair
and transparent elections.
I pay rich tribute to my predecessor, who
upheld the Constitution despite all difficulties
and odds. I sal ut e hi m f or set t i ng new
democratic traditions, the newly-elected prime
minister said in his maiden speech. He is the
fourth prime minister of the PPP.
Raja Pervaiz Ashraf got 211 votes and the
PML-Ns candidate for the slot, Sardar Mehtab
Ahmed Abbasi, obtained 89 votes. JUI-F chief
Fazlur Rehman dramatically announced the
withdrawal of his candidature on the floor of
the house just before the announcement of the
voting procedure by the National Assembly
speaker. Eight parliamentarians of the JUI-F,
one of JUI-Nazriati and Fata MNA Mualana
Abdul Malik abstained.
Out of the total strength of 338 members of the
National Assembly, 300 cast their votes. Aftab
Ahmed Khan Sharpao and i ndependent
member Sai ma Bharwana supported the
PML-N candidate, while six legislators of the
PML-N, including Khwaja Asif and Anusha
Rehman, were not present in the house.
Interestingl y, si x members of the PML-Q
likeminded group were conspicuously absent
from the house to avoid any constitutional
action of losing membership of the house if
they voted against party discipline.
ANPs Asfandyar Walik Khan and PPPs Nasir
Shah from Quetta also did not attend the
meeting.
