SEXUAL ABUSE AND VIOLENCE

The sexual abuse is frequent and many people don`t understand. The recent UNICEF

report named "Ocultos a plena luz" reveals shocking data about the serious problem to

violence in children and teenagers around the world.

In most cases, the victims say nothing. 70% of girls between 15 and 19 years old said

they never asked for help, many girls didn`t felt a form of violence and 65% of the girls

around the world (126 millions) believe that in some occasions all types of violence and

abuse are justified.

In the data of the last report of UNICEF, 20% of the victims of homicide around the world

are children and adolescents under 20.

Another alarming data is around many women under 20 to worldwide have experienced

forced sexual relations.

The report named "Ocultos a plena luz" shows the violence is a constant in the lives of

children around the world, and occurs in places where children should be more secure:

their homes, schools and communities. Nearly all of the aggressors are the members of

their families, teachers, intimate partners, neighbors, strangers and other children.

Campaign named "Abre los Ojos" launched by UNICEF in Ecuador is inform and

sensitize to families and society about the shocking data revealed above.

In Ecuador, diffused a video in all the media and awareness campaigns in nearly all

educational units and all places that have presented violence and sexual abuse.
