MANILA - Malacañang on Sunday reiterated that the judiciary remains independent and that the
administration has no hand on the decisions of the country's courts.

Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo said the the Executive respects the independence of the
other branches of the government and will never interfere in their affairs.

"We, in the Executive Branch, are mere implementers of the Constitution and laws created by
Congress," Panelo said in a statement.

"Detractors and critics of the President are quick to malign the Administration thinking that it has a
role in decisions deliberated upon and pronounced by courts of law," he added.

Senator Antonio Trillanes IV earlier slammed the Duterte administration following the arrest warrant
for libel issued by a Davao court against him.

"Baliktad ang hustisya sa gobyerno ni Duterte. Ang mga mandarambong ay pinalaya na. Ang mga
kritiko naman ay gagawan ng kaso para pilit na maikulong," the senator said.

• Davao court orders Trillanes arrest for libel

President Duterte's son, Paolo, has filed a libel case against Trillanes in September, a year after the
mutineer-turned-senator accused him of corruption.

Trillanes said he would post bail for the case on Monday. The court set bail P24,000 for each of the
four cases of libel, bringing it the total to P96,000.

The senator was earlier arrested after Duterte invalidated his amnesty through Proclamation 572. The
senator has been out on bail since September.

A Makati court earlier junked the Justice Department's plea to issue a hold departure order against
Trillanes who will be flying abroad in December, January and February for official duties.

"As we have said, we respect the independence of the other branches of the government and we do
not - and we will never - interfere in their affairs," Panelo stressed.
