Waste from the restaurants were collected and used to produce energy at a power plant. In Europe, McDonald's has been recycling vegetable grease by converting it to fuel for its diesel trucks. It has been using a corn-based bioplastic to produce containers for some of its products. In an effort to reduce energy usage by 25% in its restaurants, McDonald's opened a prototype restaurant in Chicago in 2009 . McDonalds eliminated the need for intermediate containers for cola by having a delivery system that pumps syrup directly from the delivery truck into storage containers, saving two million pounds of packaging annually. Overall, weight reductions in packaging and products, as well as the increased usage of bulk packaging ultimately decreased packaging by 24 million pounds annually.

For instance, an average meal in the 1970sa Big Mac, fries, and a drinkrequired 46 grams of packaging; today, it requires only 25 grams, allowing a 46% reduction.

Kids reign supreme in FMCG purchase related to food products. So to attract children McDonalds has Happy Meal with which toys ranging from hot wheels to various Walt Disney characters are given (the latest in this range is the toys of the movie Madagascar). For this, they have a tie-up with Walt Disney. At several outlets, it also provides special facilities like Play Place where children can play arcade games, air hockey, etc. This strategy is aimed at making McDonalds a fun place to eat. This also helps McDonalds to attract the young urban families wanting to spend some quality time while their children have fun at the outlet. To target the teenagers, Mc Donalds has priced several products aggressively, keeping in mind the price sensitivity of the target customer. In addition, facilities like Wi-fi are also provided to attract students to the outlets like the one at Vile Parle in Mumbai. Mc Donalds mein hai kuch baat projects McDonalds as a place for the whole family to enjoy.

UNIQUE SUCCESS STORY

We wanted to build a restaurant system that would be known for food of consistently high quality and uniform methods of preparation. Our aim, of course, was to insure repeat business based on the systems reputation rather than on the quality of a single store or operator. This would require a continuing program of educating and assisting operators and a constant review of their performance. . . . the key to uniformity would be in our ability to provide techniques of preparation that operators would accept because they were superior to methods they could dream up for themselves. In the minds of customers, creating a uniform and consistent product is one of the most important aspects of McDonalds success.

RAW MATERIALS USED:

"McDonalds purchases raw vegetables and other raw materials from its fixed, pre- defined suppliers only, therefore by increasing capital and labor, their production will increase proportionately." Huge processing operations have now almost totally replaced the small farmers and processors. Potato farmers are now beholden to these large processors as the primary market for their harvests. "We import some beef raw materials from Australia and New Zealand. And those plants have to meet all our same requirements that we hold our U.S. plants to; which includes animal welfare and food safety, testing everything."
