BB governor urges PCBs not to do aggressive banking FE Report The governor of Bangladesh Bank (BB) Dr. Atiur Rahman urged the local private commercial banks (PCBs) not to do aggressive banking and advised them to shun competition for making excessive profit. He said the central Bank will extend support to the PCBs if they work to safeguard their interest of the ordinary clients as banks' deposits come from them. The governor also said the BB has already taken up a good number of initiatives for improving the health of the country's financial sector. The young generation must take new initiatives, he added. The governor made this remark at the farewell and reception programme of for observance of Bangladesh Institute of Bank Management (BIBM) Evening in the city Friday as the chief guest with BIBM director general Toufic Ahmad Choudhury in the chair. Atiur said BB is trying its best to change the environment in the banking sector and experts can largely contribute to achieve this goal. The banks should not only make profit but also need to work for the welfare of the needy through social welfare, he added. "We do good works for the country but we do not get instant appreciation for such works. Despite that, we should continue our good works", the BB governor said. He said BIBM is providing services for upgrading the skill of banking personnel, contributing to bring positive changes in the sector. BIBM will not only give training to the bankers but also assist the sector through new initiatives, he added while stating that the BIBM drafted green banking policy. The BB governor said all concerned should make concerted efforts to bring more success in the sector. Otherwise, it will face problem in the future, he observed.
