To coordinate the set up of an appropriately sized team and prepare the team for the activities within the Phase.

To formally recognize that a new project exists. It supports the decision to accept the project, align stakeholders (e.g. Client / Customer, SAP Management, etc.) around a project and its scope, provide updated information for planning, and obtain commitment to proceed.

To develop the Project Plan and the Management Plan. This includes the development of the Project Schedule, Budget and appropriate updates to the Business Case.

- Verify deliverables from this phase are complete and accurate and review any critical outstanding issues - Identify lessons learned during the phase for incorporation into the next phase and/or in preparation for formal project closure.

To understand the strategic framework of the customer organization. By accomplishing this, it will allow a clear alignment of the enterprise strategy objectives and the SAP implementation, and be utilized to show how the SAP implementation will support and/or deliver the identified enterprise strategy.

To refine the project scoping document and the companys portal strategy. The deliverable should define the planned portal content from a high-level viewpoint (rough concept) and the required minimum content scope for going live.

To develop a framework for Organization Change Management that sets the initial attributes of the organization change process for the entire project. This document is further refined during the next phases of the project and evolves as more information becomes known.

To define and document technical requirements for the project and its eventual rollout, and to create an initial technical design. The technical requirements define all technical areas of the project and where they integrate with business requirements, including any expected service level agreements.

To produce the education strategy for the core project team responsible for the SAP implementation. During the Project Preparation phase it is recommended that the project team receive an overview of the SAP solution as well as the organizational change management and implementation methodology that will be used throughout the project.

To determine a preliminary end user training and documentation strategy by assessing several fundamental aspects of the customers training environment.
