Aviator/scientist Charles
discovered how to oxygenize perfusion
fluid with compressed oxygen.
This was a good thing because doctors could
then use the fluid to replace lost blood in
patients temporarily.

Herbert Best discovered insulin.
This helped to find a way for people with
diabetes, who before went into comas or death
when their blood sugar was at irregular levels,
to have a regular life.

William Parry Murphy discovered Vitamin
B-12, an effective control for pernicious
anemia, in the liver.
Pernicious anemia occurs when the body
doesn’t have enough red blood cells due to
not having enough B-12, an essential vitamin

1928 Alexander
Fleming discovered Penicillin, the original
antibiotic, by sheer luck and accident.
After he found the mold was deadly to
Staphylococcus, he grew it and tested it on
other bacteria, to which it was deadly.

Forßman(Forssman) created the
technique of cardiac catheterization.
He first tested the technique on himself by
putting the catheter into his arm.
