Todays

world is so fast and people have no time to concentrate much on small things in their life. One of the main things in this list is the matter of cooking gas. We have to order the cooking gas and wait for a week time to get it. The people are not aware about how much gas is remaining in the cylinder or how many days more we can use a cylinder. In this project, we fabricate the system, Gas Cylinder Replacement Warning System.

When

the amount of gas in the cylinder will come down below a noted weight the warning circuit in the system will get closed, the alarm will start working. The Gas Cylinder Replacement Warning System is very economic and very useful for hotels, restaurant and kitchen in our house.

LPG

gases are compressed and stored in cylinders. The shell is completely covered and prevents the leakage of gas and there was no indicators to represent the amount of gas present inside the cylindrical shell. In market the cylinder stands are available and it have no extra futures. We use continuously and we dont how much amount of gas would be present inside and suddenly one day it will get empty suddenly.

To make system that would help to measure the amount of gas inside the cylinder and used as a stand for cylinder. The springs are used to find amount of gas present inside the cylinders.

For the open coil helical spring, Outer diameter of spring, D = 90mm Inner diameter of spring, d = 80mm So from above data we get the coil diameter, Coil diameter of spring, t= 5mm

Then, No of coils is taken as 10 coils i.e., n = 10 No of springs = 3 springs Then from the PSG DATA BOOK, pg.no:7.101 For the Square and ground end of spring, Free length, Lf = pn Solid length, Ls = dn Total length of spring = free length + solid length = Lf + Ls Then the maximum load acting on the spring is 25kg and minimum load acting is 10kg. D = 90mm, d = 80mm Assume the pitch of the cylinder to be three times the coil diameter i.e., p = 3t P = 3 * 5 = 15mm

Then, the solid length and free length of spring is given by, Lf = 15 * 10 = 150mm LS = 5 * 10 = 50mm The deflection of springs is given by Y = 8pD3n/Gd4 Then deflections for the respective loads are, Y1 = (8*8.33*903*10)/.85*105*54 = 91.45mm Y2 = (8*3.33*903*10)/.85*105*54 = 36.55mm Then the stiffness of spring is calculated from, Q = Gd4/8D3n = (.85*105*54)/(8*903*10) = 0.9kg/cm

Range of the designed spring, The maximum load it can bear is 36kg and minimum of 1kg. For 36kg, Deflection, y = (8*12*903*10)/(.85*105*54) = 140mm Beyond this range the spring cannot compress, so it is the maximum range of our designed spring.

The

steel rod is taken, drilled and tapped at the bottom and its fixed to the plywood. The steel plate is drilled at the centre and fixed to the plywood. Then the both sides of springs are welded to the steel plate. The stand for gas cylinder is made. Then the switch is connected to the 9v battery and that is connected to the buzzer.

The

system is fabricated successfully and the warning system is also attached to it. When the gas cylinder is kept above the plate, the spring will tend to compress 91.45mm for the complete weight of cylinder. The total weight of the cylinder is 25kg and the amount of gas inside is 14.9kg. When start to use the gas cylinder the gas inside will tend to decrease so the spring will expand slowly.

When

it reaches 36.45mm of deflection, we can infer that there are only 2kg of gas present inside. RANGE: The maximum load that our designed spring is can bear is 36kg and minimum load is 1kg SENSITIVITY: Thus the sensitivity of our spring is 0.85. That time the plywood will press the switch and the buzzer will start warning. So it is simple we can get warning before the gas cylinder get to empty.

Thus

the warning system had made to ensure the emptying of gas before a week. The 14.9kg of gas compress the spring to 91mm and the gas decreases tends the spring to expand. When it reaches around 12kg induces the spring to expand for 65mm, the switch is closed and it starts alarm. Our system has made easier for people to get a warning before one week for emptying of gas i.e., 2kg of gas is remaining in the cylinder. So that people can order for gas cylinder and can get at correct time.
