Working Time:
There are three shifts followed by the security at NIT Trichy: 6 A.M to 2.P.M 2 P.M to 10 P.M 10 P.M to 6 A.M

TRAINING
The broad aim of this training is to: Prepare the guards to be mentally robust and physically fit & tough so as to enable them to perform strenuous security duty for up to 12 hours. Empower the guards with knowledge so that they can perform their main task of providing security and related duties, with ease and professionalism. Inculcate a sense of discipline and team spirit. Prepare the trainee guards to handle emergency situations without panic. Train the guards in fire Response and First Aid. Teach Basic etiquette and manners to be followed in the work place. Improve the communication skills of the trainees.

Trained in handling standard fire fighting equipments. Should have knowledge in First Aid/driving/handling wireless equipments/modern security gadgets etc. All Security Guards posted must be able to communicate in English of which at least 30% of the guards must be able to communicate in Tamil No person who has been convicted by a competent court/who has been dismissed or removed on grounds of misconduct

SECURITY GUARD : (CIVILIAN)


Status

: Trained Civilian in all type of security duties. (Training conducted in our own institute at Bareilly) Education : Matric and would be able to read and write English. Age : Preferable 23 to 30 years. Height : 170cm and above.

Trade Unions/Associations
Guards are not a part of any trade union or association. Maintaining close personal contact with the guards and respecting their views, makes sure that they don't feel any need for a union. To gain their confidence and trust.

Challenges and Issues

There is no collective bargaining as there are no unions. Apart from the minor day to day challenges faced by the guards, there is no conflict within the organization. Whether it is among the guards or between the guards and their superiors, there is a cordial relation When it comes to contingencies, there have not been any major contingencies faced by the agency. There have been very few areas identified by Mr. Raja which may cause small conflicts.

Sensitive issues between NIT T & 3 to 4 Surrounding villages.


Another issue which the Zonal Manager sometimes has to deal with is complaints by NIT staff that the security did not allow them at a certain place or to use a certain road.( Ex-Opal-D road ) In cases if there are any strikes by the NIT staff union against the management, a number of security guards are called by the management to provide protection and ensure that the scene does no turn ugly.

Transferred to other organizations near by to their home place which have entered into contract with Naveen security agency and they allowed if the demand is fulfilled for NIT T or if any vacancy is found in other organization.

Eye sight: Far sight vision 6/6, near vision 0.6/0.6 with or without correction; free from colour blindness; must be able to identify and distinguish colour display Free from knock knee and flat foot and should be able to run one kilometre in six minutes Height, Weight and Chest Measurements: In respect of men, the height must not be less than 160 centimetres and in respect of women, the height must not be less than 150 centimetres.

Medical examination should be done after every twelve months from his last such examination

Other conditions:

Every private security guard while on active security duty will wear and display photo identity card issued under section 17 of the Act, on the outer most garment above waist level on his person in a conspicuous manner. The police through the Crime Record Bureau in districts and City Crime Record Bureau in cities will establish the identity of the individual and verify the character and antecedents of the person by making a visit to the locality where the person claims to have resided and consult the District Police Headquarters before preparing the report on verification of such character and antecedents. This report shall contain the comments of the police on every claim of the person in character and antecedents Form and also a general report about his activities including his means of livelihood in the period of verification.

Security training.

For Civilians: training shall be for a minimum period of hundred hours of classroom instruction and sixty hours of field training, spread over at least twenty working days. Ex-servicemen and former police personnel: a condensed course only, of minimum forty hours of classroom instructions and sixteen hours of field training. e training will include the following subjects, namely: (a) conduct in public and correct wearing of uniform; (b) physical fitness training; (c) physical security, security of the assets, security of the building or apartment, personnel security, household security; (d) fire fighting and (e) crowd control; (f) examining identification papers including identity cards, passports and smart cards; (g) should be able to read and understand English alphabets and Arabic numerals as normally encountered in the identification documents, arms licence, travel documents and security inspection sheet; (h) identification of improvised explosive devices of different types of arms in use by public and police; ; (i) first-aid; (j) crisis response and disaster management; (k) defensive driving (compulsory for the driver of Armoured vehicle and optional for others);handling and operation of non-prohibited weapons and firearms (optional); (m) rudimentary knowledge of Indian Penal Code, right to private defense, procedure for lodging first information report in the police station, Arms Act (only operative sections); Explosives Act (operative sections); (n) badges of rank in police and military forces; (p) use of security equipments and devices (for example, security alarms and screening equipments); and (q) leadership and management (for supervisors only).

Recommendations

Security personnel should be extended various other kinds of leaves such as casual leave at the rate of one leave per month and 12-15 days of earned leave in a year in addition to medical leave (subject to production of satisfactory proof). In addition, a list of various holidays in a year should be made available to them well in advance. All the security personnel should be paid House Rent Allowance in the range of 20-30% of the wages, Conveyance Allowance in the range of 5-7.5% of the wages and Childrens Education Allowance in the range of 3-5% of the wages to be paid to the security personnel by the security agencies, depending on the economic condition of the security agency. Appropriate legal measures should be made for this purpose. It should be imperative for all the private security agencies to pay bonus to the security personnel engaged by them as per the provisions of Payment of Bonus Act.

Recommendation

Security personnel should be extended various other kinds of leaves such as casual leave at the rate of one leave per month and 12-15 days of earned leave in a year in addition to medical leave (subject to production of satisfactory proof). In addition, a list of various holidays in a year should be made available to them well in advance.

In case of non coverage of any of the security personnel under ESI due to some reason or the other, the expenditure on account of his/her sickness/illness and his/her dependents be borne by the security agency engaging the security personnel.
Security personnel should be provided uniforms as per the climatic conditions prevailing at various places during various seasons and the compulsion of wearing tie, thick full sleeve shirts and heavy cap during summers should not be there.
