CHAPTER I: INTRODUCTION
1.1 INTRA Objective
To expose student to a working environment
Able to enhance their knowledge and abilities
To practice the knowledge and skills learned while

1.3 Position Given
Assigned in the commercial marine shipbuilding
department as a trainee
Student was rotated to other sections for learning purposes

piping
mechanical
electrical and instrumentation
test and commissioning
1.4 To Whom Trainee Did The
Report
50% of assessment which will be evaluated by the
company supervisor
30% of the assessment which will be evaluated by the
university supervisor
20% of the assessment which will be evaluated during
the presentation
1.5 Major Task/Job/Project Given
Major task:
To assist engineers and supervisors
To observe work and progress of 77 meter DP2 DEP
PSV belong to Icon Offshore Berhad.
Minor Task:
To draft proposed block construction sequence for 82
meter offshore work / accommodation vessel OSV
To observe shipyard activity.

CHAPTER II: GENERAL
PRESENTATION OF THE COMPANY
2.1 Company Profile
One of the largest and well equipped shipyard in South-
East Asia
Main yard sited on 30-hectare of land, with deep water
access, shelter from prevailing monsoons, strategic
geographical location and free port status
LSE are easily accessible through:
By air via Kuala Lumpur, Kota Kinabalu and Miri
By ferry services from Sabah, Sarawak and Brunei
2.2 History Of The Company
Establish in 1972, known as Sabah Shipyard Sdn. Bhd.
On 26

September 2005, Labuan Shipyard &
Engineering Sdn. Bhd. (LSE) was incorporated and
took over the facilities, operations and all business
activities of former Sabah Shipyard Sdn. Bhd.
LSE is a subsidiary company of Realmild (M) Sdn Bhd

CHAPTER III: 77M DP2 DEP PSV SHIP CONSTRUCTION AND
MINOR TASK
3.1 Role of The Department Trainee Were Attached To
As a trainee
Involve in the technical site regarding the construction of the
vessel by assisting person in charge in each of every section
Minor task was to draft block strategy construction
Trainee need to research:
Previous similar project for reference on construction method
Estimate blocks weight
Block arrangement
Erection sequence
Second minor task was to re-model a hull of vessel using
computer aided design software

3.2 Expectation of The Company To The Department
Complete the project given according to the construction
plan
Complete the project according to schedule
Constructing the vessel according to class and owner
requirements
Expose trainee to working environment
Enhance the knowledge and abilities of trainee
Inculcate and foster the team spirit among the workers

3.3 Student Role/Responsibility/Project Given

Enhance trainee public relation (PR) skills between staffs,
client, vendor and sub-contractor.

shipbuilding

the new build vessel.

3.4 Task Description
3.4.1 Hull Section and Quality Control (QC) Section
Inspection for status of completion:
Dispersant tank
Water ballast tank
Forecastle and navigation deck
Drain plug arrangement / installation
Manholes installation
Portholes and windows
Tugger winch support beam
To ensure stiffeners, brackets, dimension, grinding
and welding work, etc. are in place and correct

3.4.2 Piping Section
Not much work left for piping, as the work was on
track

3.4.3 Mechanical Section
Mechanical equipments status of installation
checking:
Items seating measurement
Check motors and pumps specification
Checking the dimension of the tugger winch support
beam and anchor windlass support beam
Crane, tugger winch, rescue boat, external fire pump
c/w gearbox, sewage treatment plant and electro
hydraulic power packs, etc. for their serial number
and specification
3.4.4 Electrical and Instrumentation Section
Listing down for electrical equipments install onboard.
Example is shown below

Goes onboard the vessel named Perdana
Adventurer to study their electrical and
instrumentation consoles location & installation
Studying the Bureau Veritas(BV) class on electrical
topic. Part refer was Part C Machinery, System
and Fire Protection, Chapter 2 Electrical
Installation, From Section 1 till Section 15.

E&I equipments status of installation checking:
Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) system
Public Address (PA) system
onboard telephone system
electrical selector switch
air compressor equipment for the mud tank system
UV water sterilizer
Instrumentation system such as Icom, Cyscan, HiPAP,
Kongsberg DP2 & Azimuth thruster, magnetic compass,
etc.
3.4.5 Testing and Commisioning
Section
Prepare test document in compliance with class rule.
Test documents that were being prepared by trainee:
Cable insulation resistance test
Electrical secondary power
Insulation test for lightning system
Alternate current lighting
Emergency lighting
Switches and sockets
Direct current lighting
DC sockets
3.4.6 Naval Architect Section
Mostly drafting work for equipments seating were
given.
Drafting work done by trainee:
Steering unit equipment sitting
Mud brine starter unit equipment sitting
CyScan sitting
Battery rack sitting
Guardrail in engine room

3.4.7 Minor Task
Prepare block construction strategy and erection
sequence for 82m offshore work / accommodation
vessel using AutoCAD software

Site preparation work for two new built vessels, H102
and H103. Frame marking on site

During trainee spare time at the yard, he managed to
observe blasting process for Belait Barakah vessel

Studying the table of offset data given by naval
architect for the purpose of trainee mini project
assessment. Given task by naval architect to re-model
a vessel using Maxsurf software.
CHAPTER IV: CONCLUSION AND RECOMMENDATION
4.1 Conclusion
Targeted time is very important
Good cooperation and coordination between every
team way to achieve goal
Ships constructed must meet the requirement from
classification society & meet the objective of the task
to be performed by the ship
Facilities upgrading
