What is an organ?

Where do we find organs?

Can you name all the organs
found in the human body (do
you know where they are
located in the body)?
Organs
A group of similar cells is called a tissue
A group of different tissues is called an organ

An organ is made from a group of different tissues, which all work together to do a
particular job

Both animals and plants have organs, e.g.
Heart
Lung
Stomach
Brain
Kidney
Liver

Root
Stem
Flower
Organs
Each organ has a very specific job to do. The organs in the human body do
the following: -

Brain controls our whole body
Liver detoxification for the body (cleans it out)
Kidneys waste filtration (remove urea and help adjust water content
in blood)
Bladder collects waste material and stores it, until it is full enough to
be emptied through the urethra
Heart pumps blood throughout the body
Lungs transport oxygen into the body, and carbon dioxide out from
the body
Gut digests food (absorbing the energy and nutrients from it)
Organ Systems
Organs can work together to perform specific jobs these are called organ
systems

Circulatory system (heart; blood vessels; blood)
Respiratory system (lungs; trachea)
Digestive system (mouth; stomach; intestines; liver; anus)
Nervous system (brain; spinal cord; nerves)
Excretory system (kidneys; urinary bladder; urethra)
Reproductive system (ovaries; testes)
Muscular system (skeletal muscles)
