placing it at the top it is more recognised by the audience and draws
more attention to it, making people more likely to buy it.
Masthead- The title of
the magazine. NME is
in bold capital letters
and is a bright red
colour to stand out
from the rest of the
typeface. It is also
larger and by placing
it at the top-
especially in a corner
it draws attention to it
and makes the
audience recognise it
quickly
Strapline- Will either be at the top or bottom of a magazine (in this
case bottom) and will follow the colour scheme as its typeface. This
magazine has bands that are featured in the magazine.
Coverlines- The
coverlines are in smaller
lettering then the
masthead or main
coverline to show what
are some of the articles
are about to try and
peak interest. They
follow the colour scheme
and follow the codes and
conventions that have
been set.
Barcode- The barcode is
almost always on the
front cover so the
magazine can be sold
and in this magazine,
much like other
magazine it has been put
in a corner in some dead
space.
Main coverline- The
main coverline is in
large lettering and tells
the audience what the
main article is about.
Almost always it will be
about the artist (as this
is a music magazine)
who is the main image
and is used to peak the
audiences attention. In
this magazine Dizzee
Rascal is featured as he
is a widely known artist
that many people
admire.
Rule of thirds- The rule of
thirds has been applied to
this image to make it more
organised and to draw
attention to Dizzee
Rascals face so that the
audience will recognise
him quickly and draw
attention to the magazine.
Puff or USP- Puffs are used as a unique selling point to make potential buyers more likely to buy
the magazine. By offering something another magazine would not, it makes the audience more
likely to get it as it is a one-time thing. This puff is in a different shape in a bold red (like the
masthead- following the colour scheme) to make it stand out.
Main image- The main
image is the artist
Dizzee Rascal and he
is using direct address
to connect with the
target audience,
making the image
more appealing to
them. They have used
mise en scene to
emphasize his pose
and smile and his
clothes which even
match the colour
scheme. They have
also used connotations
of the graffiti to
represent his style of
music.
Date and price- The date,
price and issue number are
on every magazine. The
date is the 26
th
September
and the price is to tell the
audience how expensive
the magazine is. It is
however in quite small
lettering and quite hard to
see.
