After finishing this module, students are expected to be
able to identify the factors influencing ones studies, types or
learning difficulties and ways to over come them.

In learning process, one should not have self-inferior.


We must know our own character.
We should identify our own learning methods by doing continuous self
evaluation.
Mix, mingle and adapt to environment positively.
Know the relation of self concept and effective learning.
Find consultation to discuss problems.
We must be able to identify and separate motivations from obstacles.
Time management.
Build self-confidence in ourself.

Students should be able to:


Explain the meaning of learning, self concept,
memory, learning style and effective learning.
Explain the relation between self concept and self
confidence and motivation.
Mention the factors that influence the learning

experienced.
Relate these factors with the learning difficulty.
Describe ways to handle the difficulties in learning
which relates to the factors influencing learning

CASE SCENARIO
Seruni, a promising and prestigious student from a small
town in Eastern Indonesia is overwhelmed when she is
accepted by UNHAS Medical Faculty. She had dreamt to be a
doctor since her childhood days as the fact that her community
needs the service of a doctor very badly. However, she feels
very inferior to the other students who comes from bigger
cities.
After two blocks of lessons, she realize that her
performance is not as high as her performance back in high
school. She is very hardworking and continuous in her studies,
yet she still have problems in understanding the lectures and
materials she read.

Hard University
School, college, or what ever the name is, is basically
living in hardnesship. Every obstacle solved matures us. The
goal is to produce matured adults with the capability to survive
hardness and obstacles which lies ahead.
The more complicated and hard the obstacle gets, the
more doors of opportunity are opened. Obstacle by obstacle
awaits by increasing level of hardness, and knowledge by
knowledge are waiting to be discovered.
Accumulation of those knowledge is what we call
competency of life.

Brain Development
The development of a childs brain is very much influenced
by:
1)The brain and nerves condition; which is inherited from the
parents.
2)Internal changes or damages in the formation of the nervous
system before or after birth.
3)Environment and experience.
4)Essentials for optimal development:
-physical and biomedical necessity.
-emotional and spiritual necessity.
-stimulation and educational necessity.

Learning Difficulties
Diagnosing learning difficulties must be done when one
performs below his intelligence level. Parents should be strict
when a child have not achieve accordingly to his age and
academic level.
Impact:
-leads to attitude disorder, where the child could become
aggressive and naughty
-leads to lackness of self confidence and self esteem
-develops anti-social person

Factors Related:
- genetic factors is behaviors that inherited from parents
to their children
- physical aspects is physical damage that happens to
someone which contribute to the abnormality in the
nervous system. For example the person who
experience accident.
- cognitive process abnormality is incapability in
understanding the subjects and utilizes them in life.

Conclusion

Learning difficulties are caused by both internal and external


factors. External factors are influence from family, community
and academic. Internal factors are cognitive, affective and
psychomotor influence.
Every student must have a good self concept and the right
method of study to get an achievement.
A good self concept will create self belief and high motivation
from the person himself.
Failure is a good experience as it is a step towards
effectiveness.
Using fasilities and all resources to increase the quality
instudying.
Efective learning is start with thinking far and wide, in small
scale, and in a large point of view
