Definition of generation gap:

~The generation gap is a term frequently used to describe the

difference in ideas and such between the younger and older
generation
~ This generation gap usually occurs between children (especially
young adults) and their parents generation.

Why is there a generation gap?

The difference in ideas between the younger and older generation.

Older gention think that the education only important to the male compare to the female
They also think that even a female got an education, they still need to stay at home and become a house wife
However,in younger generation, the think that female need an education in order to help men in the job
This is because,we know that different gender have different kingd of thinking, idea and opinion. Thus, this advantage can help us in
certain work and problem
Actually, this idea can be proved from the website of education forum which state that, over 100 million of children didnt attend the
school and two third of them are female

The difference in the education system in those days and today.

As we live today in era of modern globalization, we always use the advanced of the technology in doing a
work or anything in our daily life.
This also same goes with an our education system. By the technology, student nowaday can do their work
especially about the learning more easier and effective. The advance of internet also provide student to gain
a lot of knowledge and become more updated about the current event around the world.
However, for a an older generation, they disagree with a technology used among their the children because
they think that technology making younger generition incapable in using their their own ability. Their
purpose is to avoid their children to depend solely on technology in order to achieve the success.

The difference of lifestyle in the past and present.

In younger generation, they are usually satisfied with their achievements as they know their own capabilities and limits.
However, for an older generation, especially the parent, they have too high expectations on their children as they want their children to
be the best among the best.
So,by getting a good result in academic, so they expect their children can get a better profession like engineer or doctor in the future.
Its mean, parents want their children got a better life compare to them

The generation gap between

younger and older generation in
EDUCATION

1. The importance of education for

female
~younger: formal education is equally important for both
male and female
~older
: formal education is important for male only. If a
female gets formal
education, she should not achieve a
higher level than male
Evidence: At an Education Forum held in April 2000, it was
found out that over 110 million children do not attend
schools and from that number, two-thirds are girls. by
Valerie Ballentine
This shows that even in this modern world, the parents who
are the older generation still thinks that girls should not
attend schools.
Why?
~because in their days, formal education is not important
for female as they should end up being a housewife when

2.The technology used in

education
~younger : Students in these days use technology in most of their
learning processes.
~older
: Older generation does not agree as they think that
modern technology is making the younger generation
incapable in using their own ability.
Evidence: Most parents object of buying electronic gadgets for their
childrens academic purposes with the excuse of these gadgets being so
expensive. However, the real reason behind it is that they do not want
their children to depend solely on technology in order to achieve
success.
Why?
~ This happens because the parents want their children to use their
brain instead of technology. The children however thinks that by using
technology, they can do their work faster and the technology that
have been invented should not be wasted.

3.The difference in syllabus

of education
~younger : the syllabus are designed to be simpler and suitable to
them
~older

it is much harder than the syllabus that are used today.

Evidences: In the past, the mathematics syllabus are more detailed but
today we merely touch the surface as they are other division of
mathematics that gives more details on the things that we learnt. This
difference can even be seen in the difference between the secondary
school syllabus in the year 2003 compared to 2006.

Why?
~ because there are more subjects that are learned today ,so the
scope of each subject is much more narrow compared to the older
days.

4. Expectations on results and

careers choices
~younger: They are usually satisfied with their achievements
as they know their own capabilities and limits.
~older
best.

: They have too high expectations on their children as

they want their children to be the best among the

Evidences: Most parents expect their children to be doctors or

engineers as they think that those are the best professions for
every child. This can be clearly seen in the world today as
most students apply to study engineering or medicine because
of their parents wish.
Why?
Because parents want their children to have a better life
than them.
Parents expect their children to support them in future.

Because of the high expectation from the parents, every younger student will push themselve and struggle in order to gget a better result
in examination.
From this situation, it will provide a positive competition between a student.
Its actually can be prove by the research from University of Oxford which mentioned that, the achievement of student in mathematic

future.
So,now, student can learn and study acccording to the obective that the want to achieve. Its mean, if the student want to be a doctor, they
will struggle and focus in order to achieve on what they dream before.

Younger generation have more learning skills compared to the older generation.

According to the improvement of technology, there are a lot of learning skill provided to the younger generation. Today, student can
gain a ot of knowledge and information through the internet . The also can iimprove their communiccation skill by having a chat with
the foreingner in other country through the internet.

DISADVANTAGES

Children becomes too pressured.

Because of the high expectation from the parent, student will become more pressure in order to achieve their parent wish.
Sometimes, different student have different capability in the study.
Some student also have different ways of study.

Children are de-motivated to study as a sign of rebelling their parents.

Parent didnt understand them

So,student just ignore on what their parent wish
Cause the low achevement in exam

Parents might get depressed as well when their children did not meet their
expectations.

Because of high expectation, parent always assume that their children can achieve on their dream
However, if the tthing is not going like they expected, parnt become depressed.
Mybe, parent will blame on the student

How to solve this problem?

Parents should be able to accept their

childrens capabilities.
Children especially teenagers have to
understand their parents good intentions.
