CLINICAL TESTING ASSOCIATES

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Consultant and researcher for the posture and
positioning specifications of the Kinect bed in
relation to preventions of bedsores and other
related complications of being bedridden.
In-charge of prototype testing on the end-user
side as regards to setting, meeting, evaluating
and monitoring the standards and specifications of
Kinect bed based on the healthcare standards and
protocol for bedridden patients.

PROGRAMMERS ROLES AND

RESPONSIBILITIES
Posture
detection
programming
using
C#
programming language and Kinect SDK
In-charge of Arduino hardware interfacing
Arduino SDK and C++
3D simulation modes using AutoDesks 3DS Max
Calibration of 3D prototype testing and evaluation
prior to fabrication

SIGNIFICANCE
1. Employment and fusion of information technology (IT) and
health science in design and fabrication of a hospital bed for
correct posture detection and positioning of bedridden
patients.
2. Application and usage of Kinect and open source information
technology in the modernization of caring for bedridden
patients.
3. Promotion by means of actualization of the relevance of ICT
in the design of IT operated medical devices for consistent
monitoring of bedridden patients health needs and
condition.

SIGNIFICANCE
4. An option for the bedridden patients to be properly
taken cared of and be monitored of their health conditions
with the use of modern technology at an eventually lowcost way in the future.
5. A venue for the medical and health sector to realize and
utilize the open source and Kinect technology in the
design, invention and modernization of medical equipment
and devices.

OBJECTIVES
1. Design a Kinect-operated hospital bed for
bedridden patients for the prevention of
bedsores, posture problems and other related
secondary complications related to it.
2. Apply the technology of open source and Kinect
in the design and operation of the hospital bed in
order to provide proper scheduling and timing of
re-positioning and correct posture detection of
elderly bedridden patients.

OBJECTIVES
3. Concretize the thrust of DOST, PCHRD, and
CLHRDC in fusing IT/ICT and health for the benefit
of the Filipino community through the design and
creation of the Kinect-operated bed.
4. Introduce to the Philippines the capabilities of the
Kinect technology in the modernization and
improvement of medical health services and
devices.

EXPECTED OUTPUT
A clinically-tested Kinect technology-operated
medical bed that is capable of repositioning
patients to the correct posture needed in
order to avoid bedsores, muscle atrophy and
contracture and to promote proper blood
circulation thereby preventing secondary
complications.

BENEFICIARIES
Beneficiaries: aside from the bedridden patients who will
directly benefit from this device, the medical sector who
has been working on the thrust of fusing information
technology with the development of biomedical devices
will also benefit.
The Computing and Information technology sector will also
be benefitting in the research output by means of being
able to identify potential usage of information technology,
open source and commercial software in the development
of programs and software for technology-driven medical
