Coptotermes Vastator or
The Philippine Milk Termite

The Philippine milk termite is a major structural pest in

the Philippines and in Guam. It was first found in Hawaii
in 1963, infesting a house that has since been
demolished. This specie, among the four kinds of
termites that are well known to infest homes & building
structures in the Philippines, is the most pre-dominant
and the most lethal and earned the name “UNOS”.

Why do we have to control
termites?
The Coptotermes Termite comes from the
soil, passes through the cracks of the
perimeter wall and creates mud tunnel to
penetrate your premises and destroy all
materials with timber cellulose, like paper,
cardboard boxes, woods, clothes and
others.

This situation needs immediate
attention
because TERMITES will do more harm if left
unattended. Termites cause more than a billion
pesos in damages to Filipino properties every
year. Worker termites do the damage, they
tunnel through the soil from their colony to your
home. Sometimes you can see their pencil-thin
mud tubes on foundation walls. But they’re likely
to be hidden from view, running through hollow
blocks or gaps around pipes. Most people don’t
know they have termites until extensive damage
has been done. A full blown colony of termites
(hundred thousand to more than a million) can
eat several pounds of wood and other cellulose–
containing materials such as paper, clothes,
cardboard boxes etc. of your property every
week. They feed 24 hours a day and leave a
chemical trail for more termites to follow.

Coptotermes Termites - The
Unseen Enemy
Termites cause more than a billion pesos in
damages to Filipino properties annually. The
Coptotermes Termite workers are the fix factors to
these damages. Worker termites tunnels through
the underground soil from their colony to your
beloved home. Sometimes you can see and
observed their pencil-thin mud tubes on your home
foundation walls. However, they are more likely to
be hidden from our naked eyes, running inside
hollow blocks or space (gaps) around pipes. Most
of homeowners don’t know that they have termites
until extensive damage have been done by worker
termite pests. A colony of termites when mature or
full-blown can reach a hundred thousand to more
than a million members and have the capability to
eat several pounds of woods and other materials in
your homes that contains wood cellulose such as
paper, clothes, cartons etc. per week. They feed 24
hours a day without any rest or sleep unlike
humans and other creatures, the worst thing that
they do is to leave a chemical trail for more termites
to follow. Infestations, attacks and invasion of
subterranean termites are a common expectation of
all homes, domestic, manufacturing and industrial
establishments. Their nature of invasion is brought
about by two essential factors:

Two Essential Factors for Termite
Invasion
FLY IN
As a result of excessive heat brought
about by the congestion inside the
colony, the termite reproductive
swarming is commonly experienced
during dusk prior to the first rainfall of
the season. Once this reproductive start
their swarming, the royal mating begin.
The pairs that will become successful
will form its new kingdom the moment
they find a suitable place in your home.

CRAWL IN
During colonial starvation, the
worker termites forage on dead
wood cellulose. This is to provide
nourishment to the queen and its
colony. In this stage, the focal point
of attack is commonly experienced
on fix door jambs, wall mounted
cabinets and ceiling wood frames.

Methods for Controlling Termites
for building structures

Initial Inspection
Versatille Pest Control Services Ltd. Co.
professional termite’s inspector will conduct
an initial inspection before the
implementation of the termite control
program to properly and scientifically
evaluate the status of all building structures
and to assess the extent of pest presence at
the facilities to be treated.

Chemical Soil Treatment

Versatille Pest Control Services Ltd. Co. will
establish defenses around the perimeter
and beneath the floor of buildings to
prevent termites from gaining entry into
the building and the treated soil area. On
the grounds of safety and effectiveness,
Premise or Chlorpirifus 2nd Generation
active ingredient (Dursban 2nd Gen., Hometrek ,
ProBuild TC) is recommended for this
purpose.

Building Modification and

Maintenance
This will include some TERMITE RISK
REDUCTION measures that the Physical
Plant Division can carry out such as
improving sub-floor ventilation, removal
of timber in contact with the soil, opening
and clearing important inspection access
areas etc.

Regular Quarterly
Inspection
It is essential for the treated zone to have
quarterly inspection to monitor fully the
progress of the termite control being
implemented and to establish a frequent
monitoring system. The active ingredients will
work and defend the building against termite
attack. However, swarms or winged termites
are constantly building new nest of colony
therefore it is important that application of
chemical active ingredients be done annually.

Quarterly/Annual Reporting System

This is a method of gathering essential data for
quarterly progress reporting system that will be
summarized by an annual status reporting
system. The reporting system will include all
areas of the building under treatment and the
success of the control to be implemented.
Covered by the reports are areas such as door
jambs, floorings, perimeter, surface walling,
inner ceilings, etc. Reports are submitted
quarterly and annually. The Physical Plant
Division of can double check and confirm the
condition of the buildings based on our
submitted reports with documentations (e.g.
digital camera photos taken at the actual
operation and actual inspection).

Extermination of live termites

This is necessary because live termites inside the
buildings at the time of chemical soil treatment
cannot return safely to their central colony nest
because of the chemically treated soil (Chlorpififus
2nd Generation active ingredients will have
repellent characteristics; after a period of at least
45 days, it will have non-repellent characteristics).
Trapped termites will be exterminated to prevent
them from inflicting further damage to the
building. Termites are compelled to return every
few days to their central colony nest in the ground
to obtain moisture essential for their survival and
to feed and groom the nymphs (young termites),
the king, the queen and other colony members.

Installation of a Chemical Soil

Barrier
Installation of a chemical soil barrier requires an
expert knowledge and specialized equipment
to form a complete and continuous barrier to
protect the San Beda College Sports Complex
building from termite infestations as illustrated

Premise and Chlorpirifus 2nd
Generation
These are safe and effective products.
Both are water based, have virtually
tolerable smell and ultra–low hazard to
humans, dogs, cats and other mammals.
The only difference between the two is
Chlorpirifus 2nd Generations being repellent
to termites from 30-45 days after
installation while Premise is non-repellent
right after installation.

VERSATILLE PEST CONTROL SERVICES LTD. CO.
Action of Premise and
Chlorpirifus against Termites
The Active ingredients will act to kill termites
in the higher concentration treated soil areas
butting the building. With any choice of
active ingredients, whether premise or 2nd
generation chlorpirifus, termites that forage
in the lower concentrated soil areas will
become disoriented, stop feeding and are
fatally diseased by natural fungi and
microorganism in the soil. The poison will be
transferred from one affected termite to the
other with the final aim of eradicating the
queen termite and the entire colony.

VERSATILLE PEST CONTROL SERVICES LTD. CO.
Action of Premise and
Chlorpirifus against Termites
Termites tunneling in the outer parts of the
treated soil area (low concentration) will not
detect the active ingredients (45 days after
installations for chlorpirifus) which will
adhere to their bodies and has a delayed
lethal effect of several days - enough time to
be transferred back to the central colony
nest. Termites after 250 million years of
living underground, subterranean termites
have evolved with a very thin waxy skin
(called exoskeleton) that readily absorbs
moisture.

Action of Premise and

Chlorpirifus against Termites
The active ingredients adhere to the termites
exoskeleton and is readily absorbed through the
exoskeleton and into the termite’s body to
immobilize and kill the affected termite within a
few days. The infected termite spread the active
ingredients to other termites during the regular
physical contact, particularly when working
together in close proximity, grooming and feeding
the rest of the colony, a regular function of their
daily life. Termites carry away or cannibalize other
dead termites, further spreading the deadly effect
of the active ingredients throughout the colony.
