Title 3

Network Health Monitoring

MISSON STATEMENT:
The BSME group will monitor the Infonet backbone and take corrective action to
provide optimal performance to its customers. Will proactively monitor, as the
network watchdogs to find and report on network vulnerabilities within
Infonets Frame Relay, X.25, TDM, Optical and ATM networks. BSME will provide
Management with reports that outline site, circuit and other vulnerable
conditions.

Ideal Conditions:

The typical network health management scenario requires management of all

WANs, LANs, switches, routers, and other networking hardware and technology
that comprise the network portion of the infrastructure. Network Health
Management Solution empowers network managers to take control of network
performance and ensure Quality of Service across the network portion of the
infrastructure.
Network managers are responsible for ensuring the availability and performance
of the network. They face a number of challenges including managing a diverse
collection of devices from numerous vendors, isolating the source of performance
degradation throughout the network, minimizing recurring WAN expenses, and
providing consistent reporting across their heterogeneous network infrastructure.

Title 4

Objective and Background

MISSON STATEMENT:
The BSME group will monitor the Infonet backbone and take corrective action to provide optimal performance to
its customers. Will proactively monitor, as the network watchdogs to find and report on network vulnerabilities
within Infonets Frame Relay, X.25, TDM, Optical and ATM networks. BSME will provide Management with reports
that outline site, circuit and other vulnerable conditions.

Objective:
To identify, formulate and operationally monitor strategic
network elements in order to maintain platform network
health.

Background:
BSME now has to manage 5 different platforms. With limited
resources it has become apparent that BSME has to narrow
down its monitoring landscape to only critical network
elements. By identifying a short list, developing both tools and
processes and assigning the NCC to monitor and audit on a
set periodic basis, will provide minimal network health
monitoring.
